India versus England 3rd T20I: England beat India in a high scoring thriller
England held their nerves as they defeated India in a high-scoring thriller during the 3rd T20I match played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Sunday.
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bat
first. Jos Buttler and Jason Roy provided a flying start putting pressure on the Indian
bowling line-up. Avesh Khan coming into the playing XI got rid of Buttler with good delivery. The England openers added 31 runs putting a solid foundation
for a big total. Roy struggled as he was not able to time the ball while Malan
looked in decent touch putting pressure on Indian bowling.
At the end of the first six overs, England scored 52 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Umran Malik dismissed Roy with a good catch by
Pant. Roy and Malan added 30 runs for the 2nd wicket. Phil Salt was
included in the playing XI but was dismissed by Harshal Patel to leave England
in trouble. Malan kept the pressure on inexperienced Indian bowling without Bumrah
and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Malan looked in sensational touch completing fifty off
30 balls. Liam Livingstone and Malan kept Indian bowling on the backfoot.
Ravi Bishnoi eventually got the big scalp of Malan with a
good catch by Pant as both Malan and Livingstone added 84 runs for the 4th
wicket. Bishnoi then struck again to
dismiss Moeen Ali without opening his account. Livingstone did not get much
strike while Harry Brooks and Chris Jordan hit important runs to help the Indian team
post 215 for 7 in 20 overs. Umran Malik, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan were
included in the playing XI.
Chasing 216 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for the Indian team as they lost the big wicket of Pant of Topley’s bowling. Virat
Kohli showed intent putting Willey under pressure before providing a simple catch
to Roy at covers. Topley dismissed Indian captain Rohit Sharma cheaply to put
the visitors under pressure. At the end of the first six overs, India made 34 for
3.
Surya Kumar Yadav came to the crease and looked in
sensational touch. On other hand, Shreyas Iyer struggled with his timing with the required run rate climbing. Shreyas then put pressure with lovely shots keeping
the momentum going for India. Surya played some innovative shots completing
fifty off 32 balls. Topley struck once more dismissing Shreyas Iyer tucking
with short delivery with an easy catch to Buttler. Surya and Shreyas added 119 runs
for the 4th wicket.
The England bowlers kept tight lines and lengths picking
wickets at regular intervals. David Willey struck to dismiss Dinesh Karthik via
review for LBW. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out
it was hitting the middle stump. Surya Kumar Yadav completed a century off 48
balls and ensured that India looked on course for a win. With 40 runs required from
2 overs, Surya Kumar Yadav smashed Moeen Ali 17 runs including 2 wides. Moeen
Ali got the last laugh getting the wicket of Surya for a sensational 117.
Chris Jordan bowled a superb 20th over giving
away just 3 runs and grabbing 2 wickets to help England register 17 runs win.
England 215 for 7 in 20 overs ( Dawid Malan 77, Livingstone
42*, Harshal Patel 2/35, Bishnoi 2/30) beat India 198 for 9 in 20 overs ( Surya
Kumar Yadav 117, Shreyas Iyer 28, Reece Topley 3/22, Willey 2/40) by 17 runs.
For his 3 for 22 in 4 overs, Reece Topley was named the man
of the match award. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named the man of the series for his impressive
performances in the first two matches.
