India versus England 5th Test 2nd Day: India leaves England in trouble
The Indian Cricket Team produced a stunning performance to put England in trouble on a rain-curtailed day 2 of the 5th Test match played at Birmingham on Saturday.
Starting on the overnight score of 338 for 7, Mohammed Shami
and Ravindra Jadeja showed intent right from word go putting the England
bowlers under pressure. Shami took on the short ball tactics keeping the scoreboard
ticking. Jadeja also looked comfortable keeping good balls away. Zak Crawley
dropped another chance.
Broad eventually struck for England getting rid of Shami with
a simple catch to Leach at third man. Shami and Jadeja added put on 48 runs for
the 8th wicket. Ravindra Jadeja completed century off 183 balls.
England captain Stokes took 2nd new ball after 80th over.
James Anderson produced a good delivery to dismiss Jadeja. Jasprit Bumrah
blasted away Stuart Broad for 35 runs including extras. Bumrah hit 4 boundaries
and 2 sixes to derail the England bowling. On other hand, Mohammed Siraj tried
to swing but was eventually caught by Broad at mid-off. Bumrah and Siraj added
41 runs for the 10th wicket. Siraj contributed just 2 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah gained confidence from the batting effort
and shattered the stumps of Alex Lees to give India a breakthrough. With the scoreboard
reading 16 for 1, rain arrived before umpires called an early lunch.
The match did not start on time after the lunch break. Jasprit
Bumrah then got rid of Zak Crawley providing a simple catch to Shubman Gill to
leave England in trouble. With the scoreboard reading 31 for 2, rain arrived again.
After some time, the match began again. Bumrah got his third
wicket by dismissing Ollie Pope with a good catch by Shreyas Iyer. Shami and Bumrah
troubled England batsmen not allowing them to score runs easily. The match got interrupted
by rain with the scoreboard reading 60 for 3. Umpires decided to call early tea due
to rains.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah looked in threatening form
not allowing Root and Bairstow to score runs easily. Shami produced some peach
of deliveries but went past the edge many times. Siraj got the big wicket of
Root with a lovely delivery providing a simple catch to Pant. Root and Bairstow
added 34 runs for the 4th wicket. Jack Leach was sent as nightwatchman.
Mohammed Shami kept on troubling England batters. Virat Kohli dropped a catch
chance to dismiss Leach.
Shami eventually dismissed Leach with a peach to leave
England on the ropes. Bairstow and Stokes ended the 2nd day at 84
for 5.
England 84 for 5 in 27 overs (Root 31, Bairstow 12*, Bumrah
3/35) trail India 416 in 84.5 overs (Pant 146, Jadeja 104, Anderson 5/60) by 332
runs.
