India versus England 5th Test 5th Day: England creates history
The England Cricket Team produced a remarkable performance as they chased down their highest ever run chase in Test cricket on the 5th day of the 5th Test match played at Birmingham on Tuesday.
Starting on the overnight score of 259 for 3, Root and Bairstow
showed intent right from the word go putting pressure with lovely shots making
life tough for Indian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah and other Indian bowlers tried to
keep pressure but Root and Bairstow maintained the pressure with superb batting
display.
It was a brilliant display by Root and Bairstow keeping the
scoreboard ticking. Root completed his century off 136 balls while Bairstow
reached his century off 138 balls. After reaching the milestone, Root played
innovative shots against Shardul Thakur. Bairstow also looked at ease and made
sure that England chased down this mammoth target with ease.
Bairstow and Root added unbeaten 269 runs for the 4th
wicket. England proved their new brand of cricket under the captaincy of Stokes
and coaching of McCullum. It was a superb batting performance by Root and Stokes
not allowing any chances to the Indian team.
Vihari dropped a chance to get rid of Bairstow yesterday.
After that chance, Bairstow and Root kept the Indian team at bay successfully
chasing down this target easily.

5/60) and 245 in 81.5 overs ( Pujara 66, Pant 57, Stokes 4/33, Potts 2/50)
England 284 in 61.3 overs (Bairstow 106, Billings 36, Siraj 4/66, Bumrah 3/68)
and 378 for 3 in 76.4 overs (142*, Bairstow 114*, Bumrah 2/74)
For his twin centuries in the match,
Bairstow was named the man of the match award. Joe Root was awarded the player
of the series for England with 737 runs. Bumrah for his 23 wickets was awarded the
player of the series for India.
The 5 match Test series that started
last year finished with a 2-2 draw.
