India versus West Indies 1st T20I: India registers easy win
The Indian Team continued their winning streak as they registered a convincing win over West Indies in the first T20I match played at Brian Lara Stadium, Tabouga, Trinidad on Friday.
West Indies captain Nicolas Pooran won the toss and decided
to field first. Surya Kumar Yadav opened the innings along with captain Rohit
Sharma. Both batters provided a flying start putting pressure on West Indies
new ball bowlers. Hosein struck to dismiss Surya with simple catch to Holder.
Surya and Rohit added 44 runs in 4.4 overs laying a strong foundation for a big
total. McCoy got the wicket of Shreyas Iyer without opening his account to
leave India in some trouble. At the end of the first six overs, India scored 45 for
2.
Rohit Sharma showed intent to keep the pressure on West
Indies bowlers. Pant came at number 4 and looked solid before Hosein took a
lovely catch at the edge of the circle. Pant and Rohit Sharma added 43 runs for the
3rd wicket. A superb diving catch by McCoy at third man resulted in
the wicket of Hardik Pandya leaving India in trouble. Rohit Sharma completed
fifty off 35 balls to maintain momentum for the Indian team. Hetymer took another
good catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma.
India looked in trouble with Ravindra Jadeja being caught by
Keemo Paul. Dinesh Karthik looked confident with his shots and blasted away the
West Indies bowlers in the last 2 overs. Karthik took advantage as the new rule
suggests if the fielding does not complete 20 overs, they need to have another fielder
inside the circle. Karthik and Ashwin scored 36 runs in the last 2 overs helping
Team India post competitive total of 190 for 6. Both Indian batters put on unbeaten
52 runs for the 7th wicket.
Chasing 191 runs to win, Kyle Mayers looked in brilliant
touch keeping the pressure on Indian bowlers, especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
After being taken for runs, Arshdeep Singh got the wicket of Kyle Mayers with
simple catch to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Jason Holder was promoted at number 3 but
was castled by Ravindra Jadeja.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar then shattered the stumps of Brooks to
leave West Indies in trouble and ended the first six overs at 42 for 3. Nicolas
Pooran and Rovman Powell provided some stability before Ashwin grabbed the
wicket of Pooran with a lovely catch by Pant. Ravi Bishnoi troubled the West
Indies batsmen and dismissed Rovman Powell to leave hosts in big trouble.
The Indian bowlers especially Ravi Bishnoi looked threatening
as the West Indies batters struggled to pick him. Arshdeep Singh also grabbed
the wicket of Akeal Hossein with a lovely yorker. Keemo Paul and Joseph completed
the formalities as India won the match by 68 runs.
India 190 for 6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 64, Dinesh Karthik
41*, Joseph 2/46) beat West Indies 122 for 8 in 20 overs ( Brooks 20, Pooran
18, Ashwin 2/22, Arshdeep Singh 2/24) by 68 runs.
