Jasprit Bumrah picks his career best ODI figures
Jasprit Bumrah produced one of the best bowling spells by an Indian against England in the first One-day international match played at Kennington Oval, London on Tuesday.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl on a pitch
that had seam movement. Jasprit Bumrah produced magic for India in his first
over getting rid of Roy taking the inside edge onto the stumps and then Joe
Root without opening their account. It was a superb bowling effort by Bumrah to keep asking tough questions to England batters.
Bumrah got the wicket of Bairstow with a lovely catch by
Pant to derail the England innings. He then produced another brilliant delivery
to dismiss Liam Livingstone. The other Indian bowler, Shami also did the
damage with stunning deliveries making life tough for the hosts. Bumrah was
bought into attack and shattered the stumps of Brydon Carse to end 35 runs
partnership for the 9th wicket to pick his 2nd wicket
haul in ODIs.
Bumrah finished off the innings by dismissing Willey to pick up
his career-best figures of 6 for 19 in 7.2 overs with 3 maidens. Thanks to his
brilliant spell, India skittled out England for 110 in 25.2 overs.
Chasing down this modest target, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar
Dhawan completed the job-winning by 10 wickets. Rohit remained not out on 76
while Dhawan on 31 to help the Indian team register 10 wickets win with 188 balls
to spare.
For his 6 for 19 in 7.2 overs, Jasprit Bumrah was named the
man of the match award. It was a remarkable performance by Bumrah who did not
allow England batters to score runs. Before this match-winning performance, the
star bowler took 5 for 27 against Sri Lanka in the 2017 series at Palleke
International Stadium, Palleke.
Jasprit Bumrah made his ODI debut against Australia on 23rd
January 2016. He has been the backbone of the Indian bowling line-up. Despite his
superb performances in 50 over World Cup that took place in 2019, India was
knocked out in the semi-finals.
Bumrah performed brilliantly in the recently concluded one-off
Test match against England played at Birmingham. He would be looking to continue
his impressive performance in the next 2 ODIs to played at Lords on 14th
and then Old Trafford, Manchester on 17th July.
