Malaysia Masters 2022: HS Prannoy enters semi-finals, Sindhu crash out
HS Prannoy was the only Indian to progress into the semi-finals while PV Sindhu lost to her nemesis Tai Tzu Ying at Super 500 Malaysia Masters played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday.
PV Sindhu lost to her nemesis Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei
in three games. Tai Tzu Ying started the game on a positive note before the
Indian made a strong comeback. At the mid-game interval, Tai led 11-9. After
the break, Tai looked in complete control putting enough pressure on Sindhu
winning the first game easily at 21-13.
The second game began for the Indian with lovely shots putting
enough pressure on Tai. It was a much better performance by Sindhu keeping her
under pressure. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu had an 11-4 lead. After the break,
Tai tried to make a strong comeback before Indian showed great courage to win it
by 21-12.
PV Sindhu began the third game with attacking shots putting
Tai under pressure initially. Tai showed great fighting spirit with drop shots
and smashes not allowing Sindhu to gather shots. At the mid-game break, Tai led
11-9. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Tai looked in complete control
winning the third game 21-12.
HS Prannoy entered the semi-finals of Malaysia Masters with
a thrilling two straight-sets win over Kanta Tsuneyama. It was a very close-fought affair between these two top-quality players. Prannoy started the game by taking
the initial lead before the Japanese made a strong comeback. At the mid-game
interval, the Japanese had an 11-9 lead.
After the break, the match ebbed and flowed from one end to
another. Prannoy showed great fighting skills saving match points before
Prannoy won the first game at 25-23.
The second game also saw some brilliant badminton by Prannoy
and Kanta. It was another closely fought affair as the Japanese had an 11-9 lead.
After the break, Tsuneyma took points in succession to have match points.
Prannoy roared back saving two match points before winning the second game as the Japanese hit the shot wide. The Indian won it by 22-20 to move into the semi-finals
of Malaysia Masters 2022.
Prannoy would be looking to continue his impressive form as
he takes on Na Ka Long Anus of Hong Kong tomorrow. The major upset of today’s
play was Chou Tien Chen losing to Long by 13-21, 21-12, 21-13.
