Malaysia Masters 2022: HS Prannoy crashed out of the tournament

 The Indian challenge ended as HS Prannoy went down fighting to 8th ranked Na Ka Long Anus of Hong Kong, China in the semi-finals of the Super 750 Malaysia Masters played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday.

HS Prannoy looked nervous at the start of the first game before putting pressure on Long with long rallies and smashes. At the mid-game interval, Prannoy had an 11-7 lead. After the break, Long tried to gather points with smashes but missed a few easy chances as Indian maintained a four-point lead. Prannoy committed a few unforced errors but won the first game easily at 21-17.

The second game saw Na Ka Long Anus showing intent right from the word go as Prannoy struggled with his shots as the Hong Kong player kept the pressure on Indian with long rallies. At the mid-game interval, Long had a six points cushion. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Prannoy committed lots of unforced errors. Long looked strong with his shots winning the second game easily at 21-9 to force the match into the decider.

Prannoy looked in complete control putting enough pressure on Long with lovely smashes taking an 8-3 lead. Long made a sensational comeback to take an 11-9 lead at the interval. After the break, the Indian struggled as he hit the shots on the net. Prannoy tried to up the pace but long maintained the pressure with rallies.

Prannoy then produced two brilliant smashes to reduce the gap to 16-17 giving some hopes of making a comeback. Na Ka Long showed great control and then grabbed three match points with a net shot by Prannoy. After winning the match, Long jumped and expressed his celebration.

This was Prannoy’s 3rd semi-finals of the 2022 BWF World Tour. It was an impressive performance by Prannoy who looked in great touch since the BWF Thomas Cup title.
