Singapore Open 2022: PV Sindhu enters finals with a dominating win
The Indian badminton star PV Sindhu moved into the finals of the Super 500 Singapore Open 2022 with a dominating win over Sanea Kawakami of Japan played on Saturday.
It was an aggressive start for both players as the Japanese
put pressure on Sindhu. After the initial struggle, the two-time Olympic
medallists showed her aggression with smashes and drop shots not allowing her
opponent a sniff into the game. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu led 11-8.
After the break, Kawakami took 3 points in succession to level the scores at
11-11. deceived points and made life
tough for unseeded Japanese. The Indian won the first game easily at 21-15.
The second game saw the Japanese committing lots of unforced
errors hitting the shuttle out and making life tough for Kawakami. At the
mid-game interval, Sindhu had a commanding 11-4 lead. After the break, it was
one-way traffic as the Indian kept the pressure on the young Japanese winning the
second game easily at 21-7 to move into the finals of the Super 500 Singapore Open
2022.
It will be her first Super 500 finals in 2022. She will be
looking to win her second title after the Swiss Open title. The Indian will
face Wang Zhi of China in the summit clash. Sindhu has been in decent form of
late but could not cross the quarterfinals or semi-finals stage.
Sindhu would be looking for the same performance in the
finals tomorrow. The Indian had a dream run in the Singapore Open 2022 winning
all her matches defeating L Tan by 21-15, 21-11. She was given a tough fight in
the second-round match against Nguyen of Vietnam winning in three games by 19-21,
21-19, and 21-18 to move into the quarterfinals. She then defeated Han Yue of
China by 17-21, 21-11, and 21-19.
