Asia Cup 2022 Match 6: Pakistan through to Super 4 stage with a dominating win

Pakistan qualified for the Super 4 stage with a dominating win over Hong Kong in the final league game played at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah on Friday.

Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan won the toss and decided to field first. The veteran Ehsan Khan got the initial breakthrough by dismissing Pakistan captain Babar Azam with a simple return catch on a slow pitch. Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman looked cautious against disciplined Hong Kong bowling. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan made 40 for 1.

Fakhar Zaman and Rizwan did not look comfortable against disciplined Hong Kong bowling. After the break, both batters showed their intent keeping the scoreboard ticking with big shots. Rizwan showed his class by hitting big shots and great running between the wickets. Fakhar Zaman completed his fifty off 38 balls while Rizwan reached fifty off 42 balls. Ehsan Khan eventually got rid of Zaman with a full toss delivery providing a simple catch to Aizaz Khan at backward point. Rizwan and Zaman added 116 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Khushdil Shah was promoted ahead of Asif Ali. Ayush Shukla struggled with his rhythm with a lot of extra deliveries. Khushdil provided the impetus with 4 sixes in the final over to help Pakistan post a massive total of 193 for 2. Shah and Rizwan added unbeaten 64 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Chasing 194 runs to win, it was a disappointing batting performance by Hong Kong batters. Naseem Shah grabbed wickets of Nizakat Khan and Babar Hayat in the same over. Shahnawaz Dhanai impressed by dismissing Yasim Murtaza to leave Hong Kong struggling. At the end of the first six overs, Hong Kong looked in trouble at 19 for 3.

Mohammad Nawaz and Shahbad Khan rattled the Hong Kong batting line-up. Both Pakistan spinners took 7 wickets between them to skittle out them for a paltry total of 38. It was a great performance by the Pakistan bowling line-up.

Pakistan 193 for 2 in 20 overs (Rizwan 78*, Fakhar Zaman 53, Ehsan Khan 2/28) beat Hong Kong 38 in 10.4 overs ( Nizakat Khan 8, Mohammad Nawaz 3/5, Shahdab Khan 4/8) by 155 runs.

For his unbeaten 78 off 57 balls, Mohammad Rizwan was named the man of the match award. With this win, Pakistan became the fourth team to qualify for the Super stage starting from tomorrow onwards.
