England versus Australia 2nd T20I: England seal the series with another close win
The England Cricket Team will gather confidence ahead of the T20I World Cup 2022 as they defeated defending Champions Australia in the 2nd T20I match played at Manuka Oval, Canberra on Wednesday.
Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to
field first. Jos Buttler impressed once again with 3 boundaries before Pat
Cummins dismissed him with a simple catch to Zampa. Stoinis got rid of Hales with an easy catch to Warner. At the end of the first six overs, England made 41 for 2.
Stokes struggled after a long layoff before being rattled by
Zampa. Stoinis did the damage once more getting rid of Brooks with a simple catch
to Wade leaving England in trouble at 54 for 4. Moeen Ali and Malan steadied
the ship with singles and putting bad deliveries away.
Malan and Ali showed intent not to allow the Australian
bowlers to settle. The Australian catching was not great as they dropped simple
catches. David Warner went off the field due to jarring his knee. Dawid Malan completed
fifty off 31 balls continuing his impressive form. Moeen Ali and Malan kept the
scoreboard ticking.
Adam Zampa provided the much-needed breakthrough by getting rid
of Moeen Ali with an easy catch to Tim David at long-on. Moeen and Malan added 92
runs for the 5th wicket. Malan’s brilliant knock ended with a simple
catch to substitute Steve Smith. Chris Jordan hit a flat six off the final delivery
to help England post 178 for 7 in 20 overs.
Chasing 179 runs to win, Aaron Finch’s struggle continues as
Willey dismissed him cheaply. The England bowlers kept tight lines and lengths
not allowing Australian batters to hit big shots. Topley dismissed Warner
trying to hit a big shot caught by Brooks. At the end of the first six overs,
Australia ended at 41 for 2.
Sam Curran got rid of dangerous Maxwell caught by Hales at
deep midwicket to leave Australia in trouble at 51 for 3. Marcus Stoinis and
Mitchell Marsh steadied the ship with lovely shots against Adil Rashid. Sam
Curran did the trick again getting rid of Stoinis. Stoinis and Marsh added 40
runs for the 4th wicket.
Mitchell Marsh looked in sublime form hitting the shots
brilliantly. Buttler bought in Stokes and got a result with a wicket of Mitchell
Marsh to put England ahead.
Ben Stokes provided a sensational save to deny Mitchell
Marsh six. The match ebbed and flowed with Tim David looking great touch. Sam
Curran dismissed dangerous David bowling around the legs. David and Wade added
31 runs for the 6th wicket.
With 22 runs required off the final over, Pat Cummins tried to
put Australia across the line but Sam Curran held his nerves to deny Cummins
and Wade. England won the match by 8 runs and sealed the 3-match series.
England 178 for 7 in 20 overs (Dawid Malan 82, Moeen Ali 44,
Stoinis 3/34) beat Australia 170 for 6 in 20 overs (Mitchell Marsh 45, Tim
David 40, Sam Curran 3/25) by 8 runs.
For his 82 off 44 balls, Dawid Malan was named the man of
the match award. England sealed the 3-match T20I series with one match to
spare. The 3rd and final T20 will be played on 14th October
