India versus South Africa 2nd T20I: India beat South Africa in a high scoring affair
The Indian Cricket Team created history as they registered their first series win against South Africa at home since 2010 in the 2nd T20I match played at Basapara Stadium, Guwahati on Sunday.
South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided
to field first. It was an aggressive start by the Indian openers as KL Rahul
and Rohit Sharma put enough pressure on opposition bowlers right from word go. Rahul
showed his intent by hitting big shots and keeping the scoreboard ticking that
making life tough for South African bowlers. Rohit Sharma also looked in decent
touch keeping pressure. At the end of the first six overs, India made 57 for 0.
The Indian openers maintained the pressure on South African
bowlers with lovely shot-making. KL Rahul completed fifty off just 24 balls.
Keshav Maharaj grabbed the breakthrough dismissing Rohit with a simple catch to
Stubbs as both added 96 runs for the opening wicket. Soon after, Rahul also was
dismissed by Maharaj to stem the flow of runs. Surya Kumar Yadav showed an array
of strokes not allowing the South African bowlers to settle.
Virat Kohli also provided great entertainment with attacking
shots and made life tough for the South African bowlers. Surya created enough pressure by playing shots all over the park reaching fifty off just 18 balls and keeping the momentum going for Men in Blue. Surya Kumar was run out as Virat Kohli did not
respond to a single. Surya and Kohli added 102 runs off 40 balls to leave South
Africa on the back foot.
Dinesh Karthik provided the impetus in the last over with 2
sixes and 1 boundary against Kagiso Rabada to help the Indian team post a mammoth
total of 237 for 3 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli remained not out on 49 as he did
not get any strike.
Chasing 238 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for the
visitors as Temba Bavuma and Rilee Rossouw were dismissed after a maiden over by
Deepak Chahar. Aiden Markram looked in decent touch putting pressure on Indian
bowlers while de Kock struggled to time the ball. At the end of the first six overs,
South Africa made just 45 for 2.
Axar Patel provided the breakthrough dismissing Markram shattering
the stumps. Markram and de Kock added 46 runs for the 3rd wicket.
David Miller looked in sensational touch timing the ball brilliantly while de
Kock struggled with his timing.
Miller showed his aggressive intent completing fifty off
just 25 balls and kept hitting big shots at will. With the required run rate
climbing up, Miller displayed smashed Indian bowlers all over the park. De Kock
also completed fifty off 39 balls and looked in discomfort.
Miller smashed his 2nd T20I century off 46 balls
with India being penalized for slow over-rate. Miller and de Kock added unbeaten
179 runs for the 4th wicket as India won the match by 16 runs.
India 237 for 3 in 20 overs ( Surya Kumar Yadav 61, KL Rahul
57, Maharaj 2/23) beat South Africa 221 for 3 in 20 overs ( David Miller 106*,
de Kock 69*, Arshdeep 2/62) by 16 runs.
For his 57 off 28 balls, KL Rahul was named the man of the
match. With this win, India registered a series win with 1 match to spare. The
third and final T20I will be played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 4th
October.
