India versus South Africa 3rd ODI: Indian team prove too strong for South Africa
The young Indian side produced a dominating performance to defeat visiting South Africa in the 3rd and deciding ODI match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on Tuesday.
After a little rain delay, Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won
the toss and decided to field first. The decision paid off as Washington Sundar
provided an early breakthrough dismissing de Kock with a lovely catch by Avesh
Khan at backward point. Mohammed Siraj troubled South African batters getting
wickets of Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks in quick succession to leave the
visitors in trouble.
The Indian bowlers kept tight lid on the South African team.
At the end of the first 10 overs, South Africa scored 26 for 3. Shahbaz Ahmed was
introduced into the attack and produced lovely delivery to get rid of Aiden Markram
with a sharp catch by Samson. Kuldeep Yadav looked in great touch keeping the
pressure on Proteas with an aggressive field setup. For South Africa, Heinrich Klassen
was the top scorer with 34 while the rest of the batters struggled to fight
against disciplined Indian bowling. Kuldeep Yadav ended figures with 4 for 18
and bowled out South Africa for a paltry total of 99.
Chasing 100 runs to win, Shubman Gill looked in sublime
touch with positive shots against South African pacers. Shikhar Dhawan’s
struggle continued as he was dismissed with a lovely throw by Jansen and gathered
by de Kock. Gill and Dhawan added 42 runs for the opening wicket. At the end of the first 10 overs, India made 53 for 1.
Ishan Kishan was dismissed with a decent catch by de Kock.
Shubman Gill looked in sensational touch with attacking strokes while Shreyas
Iyer struggled initially against pacers but then hit some superb shots. Before
the winning runs, Gill was dismissed trying to play across the line. Gill and
Shreyas Iyer added 39 runs for the 3rd wicket. Shreyas Iyer hit the
winning runs with a six to help the Indian team win the match by 7 wickets.
India 105 for 3 in 19.1 overs (Shubman Gill 49, Fortuin
1/20) beat South Africa 99 in 27.1 overs (Klassen 34, Kuldeep Yadav 4/18, Siraj
2/15) by 7 wickets.
For his 4 for 18, Kuldeep Yadav was named the man of the
match award while Mohammed Siraj was named man of the series for his 5 wickets.
The Indian team registered a superb comeback series from 0-1
down to 2-1. With this win, the Indian team moved top of the ICC ODI Super League
tournament.
