Women’s Asia Cup 2022 Day 3 Round Up: India and Pakistan register easy wins
It was a good day for both India and Pakistan as they registered comprehensive wins on the 3rd day of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup played at Sylhet International Ground 2 on Monday.
Dominating performance by Pakistan
After outplaying Malayisa in the first game, Pakistan women’s
team proved too strong for the defending Champions Bangladesh winning the match
easily thanks to disciplined bowling effort and impressive batting.
Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and decided to
field first. The decision paid off as the Pakistani bowlers especially spinners
created enough pressure on Bangladeshi batters with disciplined lines and
lengths. Diana Baig started the procession grabbing the wicket of Shamina Sultana
taking the inside edge onto the stumps.
Sadia Iqbal dismissed Fargana Haque who tried to play a big
shot and was dismissed. Baig grabbed her second wicket getting rid of Rumana
Ahmed leaving Bangladesh in deep trouble at 3 for 3. At the end of the first six
overs, Bangladesh women scored just 12 with a loss of 3 wickets.
After a brief partnership between Lata Mondal and Nigar
Sultana, Nida Dar bowled lovely delivery to Lata Mondal. The Pakistani bowlers never
allowed the Bangladeshi batters to score runs at a quick pace and picked wickets
at regular intervals. With the scoreboard reading 58 for 7, the rain arrived.
After the rain delay, Salma Khatun looked impressive but did
not get much support from the other end. It was a superb bowling effort as Pakistan
restricted Bangladesh to 70 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 71 runs to win, Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen showed
intent right from word go not allowing the Bangladeshi bowlers to settle. The
Pakistan openers never looked discomfortable ending the first six overs at 40
for 0.
Salma Khatun got the only wicket for Bangladesh dismissing
Muneeba Ali with lovely catch by wicketkeeper Sultana. Muneeba and Sidra Ameen
added 49 runs for the opening wicket. Sidra Ameen and Pakistan captain Maroof
completed the formalities as they won the match by 9 wickets with 46 balls to
spare.
Pakistan women 72 for 1 in 12.2 overs ( Sidra Ameen 36*, Salma
Khatun 1/27) beat Bangladesh women 70 for 8 in 20 overs ( Salma Khatun 24*, Diana
Baig 2/11, Nida Dar 2/19) by 9 wickets.
For her unbeaten 36 off 35 balls, Sidra Ameen was named the
player of the match award. Pakistan registered their 2nd successive
win of the tournament.
Impressive win by Indian team
The Indian team registered dominating win in a rain-curtailed match against the lower-ranked Malaysian side. Malaysian captain
Winifred Duraisingham won the toss and decided to field first. India made four
changes to the squad from the first match.
Sabbinheni Meghana and Shafali Verma opened the innings for
India. Meghana looked impressive with her intent to put enough pressure on Malaysian
bowling. Shafali Verma showed intent keeping the momentum going for the Indian team
with big shots. At the end of the first six overs, Indian women ended at 47 for 0.
Meghana and Shafali Verma kept the scoreboard ticking with
attacking shots as Malaysian fielding and catching was not great. Meghana
completed her maiden T20I fifty off 38 balls while Shafali Verma looked in an attacking mood also.
Malaysian captain Duraisingham enjoyed dismissing Meghana
caught by Mahirah. Meghana and Shafali Verma added 116 runs laying a strong
foundation for a big total. Richa Ghosh was promoted at number 3 and looked in
great touch putting the bad balls away.

Shafali Verma and Kiran Prabhu off successive deliveries. Ghosh and Verma added
42 runs for the 2nd wicket. Dayalan Hemalatha provided the impetus
with 2 big shots to help Indian women post 181 for 4.
