Super 12 Group 2: India beat Bangladesh in a thrilling rain curtailed match
The Indian Cricket Team defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling rain-curtailed match played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Wednesday.
Bangladesh captain Shakib AL Hasan won the toss and decided
to field first. It was a cautious start for KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma against
Taskin Ahmed. KL Rahul showed intent putting pressure on the Bangladesh
bowling. Mahmud Hasan dropped a sitter chance to get rid of Rohit Sharma. The
chance did not cost much as Rohit Sharma was dismissed caught at backward
point.
Virat Kohli looked in decent touch with some lovely shots
while KL Rahul made the batting easy with attacking shots against Mahmud Hasan.
At the end of the first six overs, India scored 37 for 1.
Rahul kept the momentum going for India with lusty shots, especially
against Shoriful Islam. Kohli on the other hand played the role of second fiddle
taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. KL Rahul completed fifty off
just 31 balls and was eventually dismissed by Shakib AL Hasan. Kohli and KL
Rahul added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket. Surya Kumar Yadav continued his
impressive with great shots putting Bangladesh bowlers under pressure.
Virat Kohli steadied himself with singles and kept the scoreboard
ticking. Shakib AL Hasan dismissed Surya Kumar Yadav trying to make room with
stumps shattered. Surya and Virat added 38 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, and Axar Patel could not contribute many runs.
Kohli looked solid enough completing fifty off 37 balls. R
Ashwin played a lovely cameo with 1 boundary and 1 six against Shoriful Islam
in the final over. India posted 184 for 6 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 185 runs to win, Liton Das showed intent putting
pressure on the Indian bowlers especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh.
On other hand, Shanto struggled to hit boundaries. Das made the batting look easy
completing a fifty off just 21 balls. At the end of the first six overs, Bangladesh
raced to 60 for 0.
With the scoreboard reading 66 for 0 in 7 overs, rain
arrived. After a long rain delay break, the target was reduced to 151 off 16
overs. The momentum changed with KL Rahul producing a direct hit from deep resulting in Das's wicket. Das and Shanto added 68 runs for the opening wicket.
The Indian bowlers kept a tight leash on Bangladesh's batting
lineup. Shami struck to dismiss Shanto with a simple catch to Rahul at long-on. Arshdeep
Singh grabbed the big wicket of Afif Hossain with a high catch by Surya Kumar
Yadav. He then struck to get rid of Bangladesh captain Shakib AL Hasan as substitute
Deepak Hooda took another good catch changing momentum.
Hardik Pandya bought back India into the game with 2 wickets
in an over getting rid of Yasir Ali and Mossadek Hossain. Taskin Ahmed and Nurul
Hasan provided showed their class with some big hits.
With 20 runs required off the final over, Arshdeep Singh
held his nerves with both Bangladesh batters hitting runs. India held onto their nerves to win the match by 5 runs via the DLS method. Taskin and Nurul
Hasan added unbeaten 37 runs for the 7th wicket.
India moves to the top of the points table with 3 wins and 1
match to spare. They will play their last league match against Zimbabwe on 6th
November.
For his unbeaten 64 off 44 balls, Virat Kohli was named the player of the match.
