Super 12 Group 2: Netherlands stun Zimbabwe to knock them out of the tournament

Netherlands registered their first win of the Super 12 stage stunning favorites Zimbabwe in a low-scoring match played at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision did not pay off as the top order comprising Craig Ervine and Wesley Medhevere struggled against disciplined Netherlands opening bowling. Van Meekeren got the breakthrough shattering the stumps off Medhevere.

Glover bowled decent lines and lengths not allowing the Zimbabwe batters to hit runs easily. Glover then grabbed the wickets of Craig Ervine with a high catch by Scott Edwards. Regis Chakabva was bowled by Glover after two drop chances to leave Zimbabwe in trouble. At the end of the first six overs, Zimbabwe made 20 for 3.

Sikander Raza looked in decent touch hitting some awesome shots to put Netherlands bowlers under some pressure. The momentum was in favor of Zimbabwe before Van Meekeren struck to get rid of Sean Williams with short ball as O Dowd took a good catch. Williams and Raza added 48 runs for the 4th wicket. Van Beek got rid of Milton Shumba leaving Zimbabwe in big trouble.

De Leede was bought into the attack and dismissed Sikander Raza with a lovely high catch by Klassen. Netherlands bowlers kept the momentum going taking wickets at regular intervals to bowl out Zimbabwe for 117 in 19.2 overs.

Chasing 118 runs to win, Stephen Myburgh and Max O Dowd looked cautiously initially against Zimbabwe bowling. Muzabrani got rid of Myburgh with a simple catch to Burl at backward point. Max O Dowd and Tom Cooper steadied the ship for the Netherlands. At the end of first six overs, Netherlands made 35 for 1.

O Dowd and Cooper maintained pressure on Zimbabwe bowling. Jonwge eventually dismissed Cooper with an easy catch to Medhevere. O Dowd and Cooper added 73 runs for the 2nd wicket. Colin Ackermann fell cheaply as Jonwge took simple catch at mid-on. O Dowd completed fifty off 45 balls and kept Netherlands on course for a famous win.

Netherlands 120 for 5 in 18 overs ( Max O Dowd 52, Cooper 32, Richard Ngavara 2/18, Muzabrani 2/23) beat Zimbabwe 117 in 19.2 overs ( Raza 40, Paul Van Meekeren 3/29, de Leede 2/14) by 5 wickets.

For his 52 off 47 balls, Max O Dowd was named the player of the match award.
