Indonesia Open 2023: Indian shuttlers make winning start.

Indian shuttlers got off to a great start by winning the first-round matches of
Super 1000 Indonesia Open played in Jakarta on 13 June 2023.
PV Sindhu
began their campign with a straight game victory over local favorites Tungjung.
The first game saw both players taking points and making unforced errors. Sindhu
looked sharp with her shots and put the Indonesian under pressure. At the
mid-game interval, the Indian had slender 11-10 lead. After the break, both
players continued to take alternate points till 14-14 before Sindhu took 5
points in succession. Despite Tunjung efforts, Sindhu won the first game by
21-19.
The second game
was a one-sided affair as Sindhu looked sharp and kept Tungjung under pressure
taking commanding lead the break. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as
the Indian won the game and match easily at 21-15 to move into second round.
She will face Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
HS Prannoy
made a winning start to the tournament with a straight game victory over Kenta
Nishimoto. The Indian struggled initially before showing his domination against
the Japanese player winning by 21-16, 21-14 to move into second round. He will face
Na Ka Long Anus of Hong Kong.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated Thomas and Christa Popov of
France in two straights. It was a dominating performance by the Indian pair
showing their class with 21-12 performance in the first game before the French pair
decided to retire at the mid-game break. They will now face winner of Corvee/R
Labar and He J T/ Zhou H D of China.
The women’s
doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand continued their poor form
with another first round loss to Iwanaga and Nakanshi of Japan in three games.
It was a closely fought affair as both pairs showed their class in the first
game before the Indian pair won it by 22-20.
It was a
dominating performance by the Japanese pair in the second game who looked sharp
and kept Indian pair guessing winning it 21-12. The third and deciding game saw
the Indian pair attacking moves putting Japanese pair under pressure taking
10-6 lead before Japanese took 5 points in succession to take 11-10 lead at the
break. After the break, it was one-way traffic as the Japanese pair won
deciding game by 21-16 to knock Indian pair out.
Dhruv
Kapila and MR Arjun went down fighting to Ong YS and Teo E Y of Malaysia. The
Indian pair began the first game on a bright note winning it by 21-12. It was a
strong comeback by experienced Malaysian pair producing dominating performance
in the second game with 21-6. The third and final game was a closely fought
affair with both pairs fighting for each point before the Malaysian pair won it
by 22-20.
Kidambi
Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and Pranshu Rajawat will play their first round matches
on 14th June.
