Indonesia Open 2023: Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth to face other.

It was a great day for Indian shuttlers as Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth won their first-round matches of Super 1000 Indonesia Open in Jakarta, Indonesia on 14 June 2023.

Lakshya Sen defeated Lee Zi Jia of Malaysia in two straight games. Both players looked out of form this year and needed some motivation. It was a great performance by Sen who played with aggression and made life tough for his opponent. After the initial struggle, Jia showed his power taking slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the interval, Sen looked sharp winning the first game easily by 21-17.

The second game was one-sided affair as Sen dominated right from the word go and kept pressure on the Malaysian winning it by 21-13 to move into the second round. It was an impressive performance by Sen who played with precision while Lee looked out of sorts and made unforced errors.

Kidambi Srikanth cruised past to the second round with straight game win over Lu Gungazu of China. The Indian played with aggressive intent looking sharp playing lovely shots keeping the pressure on the Chinese. At the mid-game interval, the Indian had a 11-7 lead. After interval, it was one way traffic for Srikanth as he won the first game easily by 21-13.

The second game also began in the same way as first one as the Indian looked sharp with his shots keeping pressure on Chinese. At mid-game break, Srikanth had 11-7 lead. After the break, the Indian looked on course for a win before the Chinese made strong return into game with points in succession to equal the score at 19-19. Srikanth held onto his nerves to win the match by 21-19 to move into the second round.

Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen will fight in the second round on 15 June. Pranshu Rajawat progressed into the next round as his opponent Vitisdarn withdrew due to an injury. He will now face Anthony Gingting.

PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Pranshu Rajawat and the doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag Shetty would play the second round matches.

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games. The Indian pair struggled in the initial phases of the first game trailing by 3-6 before taking 7 points in succession to put the pressure back on the Chinese pair.
