Paris Olympics 2024: Lakshya Sen Stun Jonathan Christie

 

Lakshya Sen stunned 3rd-seeded Jonathan Christie in a one-sided match to top Group L and move into the pre-quarters played in Paris on 31st July.

Going into the match, Lakshya Sen lost the previous three matches. It was not an ideal start for Indian as he committed lots of unforced errors. Sen then showed great fighting spirit with brilliant smashes that put the Indonesian under some pressure. At the mid-game interval, Sen had a slender 11-10 lead.

After the break, the match ebbed and flowed with both players looking to take advantage. Both players took points to level the scores at 18-18. Sen showed his class by taking the next three points to win the first game with a scoreline of 21-18. There were long rallies that tested the stamina of both players.

The second set saw Lakshya Sen showing his fighting spirit with smashes and did not allow the Indonesian a chance. At the mid-game interval, Sen had an 11-6 lead. After the break, it was one-way traffic as the Indian looked in complete control winning the second set easily by 21-12 to move into pre-quarters.

Lakshya Sen came back strongly after his match against Kevin Cordon got canceled. He then defeated Belgium Julien Carraggi in two straight games. He would face HS Prannoy in the round of 16. Prannoy will look to his 2nd match today after defeating Fabian Roth of Germany easily. 

In women’s singles, PV Sindhu had an easy outing defeating Kristian Kuuba of Estonia. It was a one-sided affair for the Indian winning the game in two straight games with a scoreline of 21-5, 21-10 to move into the pre-quarters. She is likely to face He Bingjao in the next round.
