Eng vs SL: Playing XI For Both Teams Announced
England and
Sri Lanka named playing XI for the third and final game of the series to be
played at Kennington Oval, London starting from 6th September
onwards.
Under the captaincy
of Ollie Pope, the hosts announced their playing XI on 4th September
2024. There is only one change to the squad with Josh Hull making his debut
replacing Matthew Potts.
Dan Lawrence
would look to perform well in the 3rd test after disappointing
scores in the previous match at Lords. Lawrence would open the innings along
with Ben Duckett. Ollie Pope, experienced Joe Root scoring twin centuries would
come at number 4, Harry Brook 5, Jamie Smith 6.
Chris
Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Josh Hull& Olly Stone would comprise of pace bowling
options. Shoaib Bashir will be the only spinner included in the playing XI.
England would love to prove their domination and whitewash the visitors.
As far as
Sri Lanka is concerned, there will be 2 changes in the playing XI. Nishan Madushka
has been dropped due to poor form during the 2nd test match at Lords. Karaunate
and Pathum Nissanka would open the innings for Sri Lanka.
Kusal Mendis
has been included in the playing XI after disappointing scores in the first
test match at Old Trafford. Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva,
& Kamindu Mendis would comprise middle-order batters.
Prabath
Jayasuriya has been dropped from the playing XI after good performances. Vishwa
Fernando, Ashita Fernando, Milne Rathnayake& Lahiru Kumara consist of four
pace bowling options.
Both teams
look to gain valuable WTC Points
England and
Sri Lanka would look to gain 12 important points in the 2023-25 World Test
championship cycle. The hosts slipped to the number 5th spot after
Bangladesh’s 6-wicket win over Pakistan in the 2nd Test match at Rawalpindi.
Sri Lanka is
currently 33.33% points after 2nd test loss at Lords. They need to
win this match to stay in contention for the WTC finals.
