Ind vs Bang 1st Test 1st Day: R Ashwin And Jadeja’s Brilliance Puts In A Strong Position
The Indian
Cricket Team began the home season on a good note as they ended the first day
in a strong position against the visiting Bangladesh side played at M Chidambaram
Stadium, Chennai on 19th September 2024.
Bangladesh
captain Najmul Hasan Shanto won the toss and decided to field first in an
overcast condition. Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed began the session swinging
the ball troubling the Indian openers. Rohit Sharma survived LBW out given not
out by the umpire, on review it was retained to not out for umpire’s call.
Mahmud eventually struck dismissing Rohit Sharma with a beauty caught by Najmul
Hasan Shanto at slips.
Hasan
Mahmud rattled the Indian top order getting wickets of Shubman Gill down the
leg while Kohli was dismissed caught by Litton Das to leave the hosts in
trouble at 34 for 3. Rishabh Pant looked positive against Bangladesh bowlers
after the initial struggle. Jaiswal played according to the situation keeping
momentum going for India. The hosts went into the lunch break at 88 for 3.
Pant and
Jaiswal hit the bad deliveries away for boundaries keeping the scoreboard
ticking. Mahmud struck for the fourth time dismissing Pant trying to hit away
from the body. Pant and Jaiswal added 48 runs for the 4th wicket.
KL Rahul
looked slow with his batting while Jaiswal played some lovely shots, reaching
fifty off 95 deliveries. Nahid Rana produced peach dismissing Jaiswal caught by
Shadman Islam. Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed his class getting rid of KL Rahul with
a stunning catch by Zakir Hasan at short leg leaving India in trouble at 144
for 6. R Ashwin looked sublime with his shots keeping the scoreboard ticking while
Jadeja struggled. India ended the 2nd session at 176 for 6.
Ravindra
Jadeja was given out by the umpire; on review it was overturned due to an inside
edge. Both experienced batters kept charge taking on Shakib AL Hasan keeping
the momentum going for India. R Ashwin reached his fifty in quick time off 58
deliveries while Ravindra Jadeja completed his milestone off 73 balls. It was a
superb batting display by Jadeja and Ashwin not allowing the Bangladesh bowlers
to settle.
R Ashwin
was sublime with his shots, reaching his 6th Test century off 108
deliveries. Both experienced Indian batters ensured that India ended the first
day in a strong position at 339 for 6.
