ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Match 1: Bangladesh Starts The Tournament With A Win
The
Bangladesh Women’s team began the T20 World Cup with an easy win over debutant
Scotland in the opening match played at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah on 3rd
October 2024.
Bangladeshi
captain Nigar Sultana won the toss and decided to bat first. Shahti Rani and
Murshida Khatun began with positive intent taking singles and hitting occasional
boundaries. Khatun could not make use of the drop chance providing a simple
catch to Fraser at mid-off. Sobhana Mistry and Rani struggled against disciplined
Scotland bowling. At the end of the first six overs, Bangladesh women scored 35
for 1.
Mistry and
Rani struggled against disciplined Scotland bowling. Katherine Fraser struck
for Scotland dismissing Rani with a simple catch to Horley at midwicket. Mistry
and Rani added 42 runs for the 2nd wicket. A combination run out by
Maqsood and Bell ended in the wicket of Taj Nehar leaving Bangladesh in some
trouble. The Bangladeshi batters struggled not able to hit boundaries.
Olivia Bell
struck with a lovely delivery to dismiss Mistry stumped by Sarah Bryce. Saskia
Horley got the wicket in her first over dismissing Shorna Akther with a lovely
catch by Chatterji at short fine leg. She produced the magic in the same over getting
rid of Ritu Moni with a lovely stumping by Sarah Bryce. Fahima Khatun and Nigar
Sultana hit some valuable runs in the final two overs. Bangladesh women posted
119 for 7 in 20 overs. For Scotland, Horley finished with figures of 3 for 13
in 2 overs.
Chasing 120
runs to win, it was not an ideal start as Horley was deceived by Fahima Khatun with
an easy stumping by Nigar Sultana. The Bryce sisters showed intent keeping the
scoreboard ticking. Marufa Akter struck with
a massive blow dismissing Kathryn Bryce hitting the stumps. At the end of the
first six overs, Scotland women scored 31 for 2.
Sarah Bryce
struggled against disciplined Bangladesh bowling not able to hit boundaries in
hot and humid conditions. Ritu Moni struck in her first over dismissing Lister
caught by Rabeya Khan at mid-off. Bangladesh took another wicket as Chatterji
and Sarah Bryce were involved in a mix-up. They never allowed the Scotland
batters to run away scoring runs. It was a great bowling performance by the
Bangladesh bowlers restricting Scotland to 103 for 7. Ritu Moni took 2 for 15
while Marufa Akter, Nahid Akter, Fahima Khatun & Rabeya Khan took 1 wicket
each.
For her figures
of 2 for 15 in 4 overs, Ritu Moni was named the Player of the Match award.
Bangladesh
women 119 for 7 in 20 overs (Sobhana Mistry 36, Saskia Horley 3/13) beat
Scotland women 103 for 7 in 20 overs (Sarah Bryce 49*, Ritu Moni 2/15) by 16
runs.
