Pak vs Eng 1st Test 1st Day: Honors even on day 1
The first
day of the first test match between Pakistan and England saw some great action on
a placid batting paradise played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan on 7th
October 2024.
Pakistan
captain Shan Masood won the toss and decided to bat first. It was the worst
possible start for the hosts as Saim Ayub was dismissed cheaply gloved down the
leg by Gus Atkinson. Captain Shan Masood was given out by the umpire, on review
it was overturned to not out as it was pitching outside leg.
After reprieve
looked impressive with attacking strokes keeping pressure on the inexperienced England
bowling line-up. Masood and Shafique showed intent with great running between
the wickets. Both batters kept the scoreboard ticking making life tough for the
England bowlers.
Masood
reached his half-century off 43 deliveries. Shafique also looked impressive
with his shots completing his fifty off 77 balls. Pakistan went into the lunch
break at 122 for 1.
After the
lunch break, Masood and Shafique kept the scoreboard ticking. Masood continued
his attacking approach reaching his first test century since 2020. Both batters
kept the scoreboard ticking keeping the scoreboard ticking. It was a superb
batting display by Masood and Shafique that made sure that Pakistan kept the momentum.
Brydon Carse and Atkinson tried their best to get the wicket with short ball tactics.
Pakistan went into the tea break at 233 for 1.
Abdullah Shafique
looked impressive reaching his century off 165 deliveries. Atkinson got a much-needed
breakthrough for England dismissing Shafique with a tired shot by providing a simple
catch to Ollie Pope. Shafique and Masood added 253 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Shan Masood
made the batting look easy reaching 150 off 166 deliveries to keep Pakistan on
course for a massive total. Shan Masood’s brilliant innings ended providing an
easy return catch to Jack Leach giving England a major boost after the dangerous
2nd wicket partnership.
Babar Azam
looked iffy in the initial stages of his innings. Saud Shakeel showed his
skills against Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir keeping the scoreboard ticking. England
captain Pope took the 2nd new ball in the 82nd over.
Chris Woakes produced a lovely delivery to dismiss Babar Azam hitting plumb in
front. Babar and Saud added 61 runs for the 4th wicket.
Naseem Shah
came as a nightwatchman for Pakistan and survived anxious moments. Pakistan
ended the first day at 328 for 4.
