Afg vs Bang: Afghanistan Spinner Creates History
Afghanistan
showed their resilience as they registered an emphatic 92-run win in the first
One-day international match against Bangladesh played at Sharjah Cricket
Ground, Sharjah on 6th November 2024. Hashmatullah Shahidi won the
toss and decided to bat first on a good batting paradise.
It was not
an ideal start for the Afghanistan team as they lost an early wicket namely
Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Sediqullah Atal showed good intent in his debut match
before Mustafizur Rahman struck thrice dismissing Atal, Rahmat Shah &
Omarzai to leave Afghanistan in deep trouble at 35 for 4. Gulbaidn Naib steadied the ship along with
captain Hashmatullah Shahidi keeping momentum going for Afghanistan. Naib provided
a simple catch to Tanzid Hasan at short midwicket. Naib and Shahidi put on 36
runs for the 5th wicket.
Mohammad
Nabi and Shahidi showed excellent intent to keep the momentum going by taking
singles and hitting big shots. Both batters looked in complete control not
allowing the Bangladeshi bowlers to settle. Nabi showed his class reaching
fifty off just 52 deliveries while Shahidi also completed his half-century off
87 balls. After completing his milestone, Shahidi was dismissed by Rahman.
Shahidi and Nabi added 104 runs for the 6th wicket that helped
Afghanistan recover from a tough situation. Nabi and Kharote added valuable runs
with powerful hitting by both batters. Nabi and Kharote added 30 runs for the 8th
wicket. Kharote remained not out on 27. It was a great recovery by Afghanistan to
post 235 on the board.
Allah Ghazanfar
registers second-best figures by an Afghan bowler in the ODI format
The mystery
leg spinner Allah Ghazanfar registered the second-best figures by an Afghanistan
bowler in the ODI format. He got an early breakthrough dismissing Tanzid Hasan
with a lovely delivery shattering the stumps. Bangladesh looked in complete
control with 120 for 2 before Ghazanfar showed his skills by bundling out other
Bangladesh batters with lots of variations.
He
dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz with an easy catch on Omarzai. It was a superb
piece of bowling by the leg spinner creating doubts on Bangladeshi batters. Allah
got wickets of Mushfiqur, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed &Shoriful Islam to
bundle out Bangladesh for just 143. Afghanistan skittled them out for 143 after
being in a comfortable place at 120 for 2.
Allah Ghazanfar
occupies the second spot with the best figures in One-day internationals. For
his match-winning spell, Ghazanfar was named the player of the match award.
Rashid Khan
occupies the top spot with 7 for 18 against West Indies at ST Lucia on 9th
June 2017.
