Afghanistan showed their resilience as they registered an emphatic 92-run win in the first One-day international match against Bangladesh played at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah on 6th November 2024. Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and decided to bat first on a good batting paradise.

It was not an ideal start for the Afghanistan team as they lost an early wicket namely Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Sediqullah Atal showed good intent in his debut match before Mustafizur Rahman struck thrice dismissing Atal, Rahmat Shah & Omarzai to leave Afghanistan in deep trouble at 35 for 4.  Gulbaidn Naib steadied the ship along with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi keeping momentum going for Afghanistan. Naib provided a simple catch to Tanzid Hasan at short midwicket. Naib and Shahidi put on 36 runs for the 5th wicket.

Mohammad Nabi and Shahidi showed excellent intent to keep the momentum going by taking singles and hitting big shots. Both batters looked in complete control not allowing the Bangladeshi bowlers to settle. Nabi showed his class reaching fifty off just 52 deliveries while Shahidi also completed his half-century off 87 balls. After completing his milestone, Shahidi was dismissed by Rahman. Shahidi and Nabi added 104 runs for the 6th wicket that helped Afghanistan recover from a tough situation. Nabi and Kharote added valuable runs with powerful hitting by both batters. Nabi and Kharote added 30 runs for the 8th wicket. Kharote remained not out on 27. It was a great recovery by Afghanistan to post 235 on the board.
