Malaysia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Shetty Enters Semi-Finals

The Indian pairing of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty cruised past their Malaysian opponent in straight sets to enter the semi-finals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 10th January 2025.

Right from the word go, it was a closely fought affair as both pairs showed class with their shots keeping their opponents under pressure. At the mid-game break, Ong and Teo had a slender lead. After the break, it ebbed and flowed with both pairs not able to convert match point. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to level the scores at 24-24. They eventually won the first game 26-24.

The second game saw Ong/Teo put on an excellent display of badminton putting Satwik/Chirag under pressure with their service and smashes. Satwik/Chirag made promises but did not capitalize on the chances. At the mid-game break, the Malaysian pair had an 11-8 lead. Satwik/Chirag then showed their prowess with smashes to level the scores at 11-11. The Indian duo put enough pressure on the Malaysian taking points in succession and never allowed any sniff for them to make a comeback winning the match by 21-15 to move into their third successive semi-finals of this event.

Satwik/Chirag Shetty will face the South Korean duo of Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in the semi-finals. Chen Boyang and Liu Ki will take on Maan Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun of Malaysia in the second semi-finals.
