Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25- Pre-Quarterfinals Summary
The two
finalists of the 2023-24 season of the Vijay Hazare, Haryana and Rajasthan
entered the quarterfinals with wins over fancied Tamil Nadu and Bengal played
at Vadodara on 9th January 2025. It was a great performance by the Rajasthan
side as they defeated Tamil Nadu by 19 runs while Haryana registered a
commanding win over Bengal.
Haryana vs
Bengal (Pre-Quarterfinals 1)
Haryana
registered a dominating 72 runs win over fancied Bengal in the first
preliminary quarterfinals played at Moti Bagh Stadium, Vadodara. Bengal captain
Sudip Gharami won the toss and decided to field first on a fresh pitch. For Haryana, Nishant Sindhu was the top
scorer with 64 while Parth Vats scored 62. Rahul Tewaita contributed 29
valuable runs while Sumit Kumar made an unbeaten 41 to help Haryana post 298
for 9 in 50 overs. Mohammed Shami gave a test for the Champions Trophy as he
grabbed 3 for 61 in 10 overs. He took an early wicket of Himanshu Rana before
taking the wickets of Dinesh Bana and Anshul Kamboj. Mukesh Kumar also grabbed
2 for 46 while Sayan Ghosh, Pradipta Pramanik, Kaushik Maily & Karan Lal
took 1 wicket each.
In reply,
Sudip Gharami and Abhishek Porel gave an aggressive start putting on 70 runs
laying a strong foundation for a win.
Haryana bundled out Bengal for 226 in 43.1 overs. Anshul Kamboj took 2
for 25, Nishant Sindhu also took 2 for 36 while Parth Vyas took 3 for 33 in 8
overs. Aman Kumar, Sumit Kumar & Amit Rana took 1 wicket each. For his
all-round performance, Parth Vats was named the player of the match.
Haryana 298
for 9 in 50 overs (Nishant Sindhu 64, Parth Vyas 62, Mohammed Shami 3/61) beat
Bengal 226 in 43.1 overs (Abhishek Porel 57, Parth Vats 3/33) by 72 runs.
Rajasthan
vs Tamil Nadu (Pre-Quarterfinals 2)
Rajasthan
edged past through power-house Tamil Nadu side in a thrilling second
pre-quarterfinals played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara. Tamil Nadu captain Sai
Kishore won the toss and decided to field first. Rajasthan opener Abhijeet
Tomar made a superb 111 runs off 125 balls along with Mahipal Lomror’s 60 and a
quickfire cameo by Kartik Sharma 35 helped Rajasthan post 267 in 47.3 overs.
For Tamil
Nadu, Varun Chakvarthy showed his class with 5 for 52 in 9 overs. Lomror and
Abhijeet put on 160 runs for the 2nd wicket which laid a strong foundation for
Rajasthan to post a big total. Varun broke the big partnership of 160 runs for
the 2nd wicket dismissing Lomror. He then dismissed Deepak Hooda, centurion
Abhijeet Tomar. His performance stood out for Tamil Nadu getting wickets of
Kukna and eventually getting rid of Khaleel Ahmed and putting a stop to the run
flow. Sandeep Warrier and TN captain Sai Kishore took 2 wickets each.
In reply to
268 runs to win, Tushar Raheja and Narayana Jagadeesan showed intent right from
the word go putting on 60 runs for opening wicket in 7 overs. Jagadeesan
smashed 6 boundaries in an over against Aman Sehrawat. Jagadeesan scored a
quickfire 65 off 52 deliveries. The experienced Vijay Shankar scored 49 while
Baba Indrajith scored 37. Despite their efforts, Rajasthan bowlers choked TN
batters and bundled them out for 248 in 47.1 overs. For Rajasthan, Aman
Shekhawat picked 3 for 60, Aniket Choudhary and Kukna Ajay Singh 2 wickets each
while Khaleel Ahmed grabbed 1 wicket. For his 111, Abhijeet Tomar was named the
player of the match award.
Rajasthan 268 in 47.3 overs (Abhijeet Tomar 111, Mahipal Lomror 60, Varun Chakvarthy 5/52) beat Tamil Nadu 248 in 47.1 overs (Narayana Jagadeesan 65, Vijay Shankar 49, Aman Shekhawat 3/60) by 19 runs.
