Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 Quarterfinals 3: Maharashtra stuns Punjab

 

Maharashtra stunned the hot favorites in the 3rd quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy match played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 11th January.

Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. Arshdeep Singh provided perfect for Punjab dismissing Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over and then getting rid of Siddesh Veer to leave them in trouble.

The Under 19-star Arshin Kulkarni steadied the ship along with experienced Ankit Bawne. Both kept the scoreboard ticking with singles and hitting boundaries. Arshin looked impressive along with Ankit. Kulkarni reached his half-century off 81 deliveries to steady the ship for Maharashtra. Both made the batting look easy with Bawne also completing his half-century of 71 deliveries.

Naman Dhir eventually got the breakthrough dismissing Bawne. Bawne and Kulkarni added 145 runs for the 3rd wicket. Arshin Kulkarni looked comfortable hitting some lovely shots to keep the scoreboard ticking. Kulkarni and Tripathi put on 38 runs for the 4th wicket.

Naman Dhir struck again to dismiss Azim Kazi with a simple return catch. Kulkarni reached his century off 129 deliveries. Nikhil Naik and Satyajeet Bachaav attacked the Punjab bowlers with lusty blows not allowing Punjab bowlers to settle. Nikhil Naik smashed 3 sixes in the final over to complete his fifty off 29 deliveries. Naik and Bachaav put on unbeaten 63 runs for the 7th wicket to help Maharashtra post 275 for 6 in 50 overs. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh took 3 for 56 in 10 overs.

Great Performance by Maharashtra bowlers.

The left-arm pace bowler Mukesh Chaudhary rattled the Punjab batting dismissing both inform openers Prabhsimran Singh and Abhishek Sharma. It was a disciplined bowling effort by the Maharashtrian bowlers picking wickets at regular intervals.

The likes of Nehal Wadehra, Ramandeep Singh, Anmol Malhotra &Naman Dhir failed to contribute. Arshdeep Singh provided some fight for Punjab with a quickfire knock, but it was a tall order for Punjab batters. Arshdeep Singh and Sanvir Singh added 51 runs for the 8th wicket. Arshdeep was the last batter to be dismissed as Maharashtra won the match by 70 runs.

For Maharashtra, Mukesh Chaudhary took 3 for 44, Pradeep Dadhe 2 for 31, Rajneesh Gurbani, Arshin Kulkarni, Bachaav, & Azim Kazi took 1 wicket each.

Arshin Kulkarni was named the player of the match award for his 107 and 1 for 7 in 4 overs. Maharashtra entered the semi-finals of this prestigious tournament.
