Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2025: India’s Chances In The Tournament

The Indian badminton contingent will look to showcase their skills in the prestigious Badminton Asia Mixed team championship tournament played in Qingdao, China.

Indian team has been clubbed with Macau, China &runners-up of the 2023 edition South Korea in Group D. They need to top the group to avoid the likes of China or Indonesia in the quarterfinals.

They have been dealt a major blow as star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has withdrawn from the tournament due to an injury that she suffered during the training session in Guhwati.

This tournament consists of 5 matches including men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, women’s doubles &mixed double section. India will begin their campaign against Macau on Wednesday before they face South Korea in the second group match against South Korea on 13th February 2025.

India topped the Group stage winning all three matches in the 2023 edition. They whitewashed Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates 5-0. Their last match was an impressive performance with a 4-1 win over Malaysia.

India came back from 0-2 down to win the quarterfinals against Hong Kong with a remarkable 3-2 victory.

The Indian team showed fighting spirit in the semi-finals. After being 0-2 down, Dhruv Kapila and Chirag Shetty won the men’s doubles, Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand won the women’s doubles to level the scores at 2-2. It was an impressive performance by the Indian team as the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto lost.

India’s Team in 2025 edition

The Indian team for this year’s prestigious tournament will see HS Prannoy &Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles section. Malvika Bansod would take part in the women’s section which would be a huge challenge for the youngster.

The women’s doubles section will see Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand while Satwik/Chirag Shetty take part in the men’s doubles section.

Indian team would look to challenge top-quality teams like China, Indonesia, South Korea &Japan.

Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games. The Indian pair struggled in the initial phases of the first game trailing by 3-6 before taking 7 points in succession to put the pressure back on the Chinese pair.
