Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2025: India Went Down Fighting To South Korea.
The Indian
Badminton Team suffered a 2-3 loss to decide the table topper against South
Korea played at Qingdao, China on 13th February 2025.
It was a disappointing
start for the Indian team as the mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha
Crasto suffered a loss in three thrilling games to KI DJ and Jeong N E. Kapil
and Crasto showed domination during the first game not allowing any chance for
their opponents by winning with a comfortable scoreline of 21-11. Ki and Jeong
showed domination putting Kapil and Crasto under pressure in the next two games
winning by 21-12, 21-15 to give South Korea a 1-0 lead.
Malvika
Bansod looked out of sorts in the women’s singles. She suffered a straight-game
loss to Sim Y J. Sim produced great performances putting the youngster under
immense pressure winning by 21-9, 21-10 to give South Korea a 2-0 lead.
Satish Karunakaran stunned higher-ranked South
Korean Cho Geonyop in three thrilling games. It was a closely fought first game
as both players fought for each point before Cho won it by 21-17. The second
game was another closely fought encounter, but this time Satish held onto his
nerves to win with a scoreline of 21-18. Satish began the 3rd game
on an aggressive note, before Cho fought back strongly. The match ebbed and
flowed as Satish showed his skills to win the third game by 21-19 to give the
first point of the tie. The match lasted for 1 hour and 12 minutes.
Tressa
Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand defeated Kim Min Ji and Kim Yu Jung in three thrilling
games in the women’s doubles section. The first game was a closely fought
affair right from the word go before Kim Min and Kim Yu won with a 21-19
scoreline. It was another close affair in the second game before Indian
pairing took points in succession to win it by 21-16. Tressa and Gayatri put on
a dominating display during the deciding game winning by 21-11 to help India
level the match at 2-2.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy/MR Arjun lost to Jin Young and Na
Sung Seung in two straight games. It was an impressive performance by both
pairs initially before Jin and Sung showed their domination, winning the first
game by 21-14. Satwik/MR Arjun made an impressive start to the second game putting
the South Korean pair under pressure. After the break, Jin and Sung fought back
strongly. The match ebbed and flowed before the South Korean pair won the
decider with a thrilling 25-23 scoreline. South Korea registered a 3-2 finishing
top of the Group.
Despite
their brilliant efforts, India finished runners-up in Group D. The
quarterfinals draw will be out later today.
