ICC T20I Rankings: Two Performers Make Huge Rise

There was some good news for the Indian fans as Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy makes a huge climb in the latest ICC T20I rankings for both batters and bowling.

Abhishek Sharma showed his class in the recently concluded 5 matches T20I series against England. He was supreme with his explosive batting with a quickfire 79 in the first match in Kolkata. His batting ensured that India chased down the target of 133 with ease.

He failed to contribute much in Chennai & Rajkot. With India struggling at 12 for 3, Abhishek Sharma provided the stability putting on 45 runs for the 4th wicket along with Rinku Singh. The explosive left-handed opener demolished England’s bowling in the fifth T20I match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He registered the highest individual score by an Indian in the shortest format smashing 135 off 54 deliveries with 7 fours and 13 sixes helping Team India post a massive total of 247 for 9. Abhishek Sharma climbed 38 places up to number 2nd in the batting rankings.

In the bowling department, Varun Chakvarthy climbed up to number 2. He was the star of the show picking 14 wickets in 5 matches. Varun’s best figures in this series came was 5 for 24 in 4 overs during the 3rd match in Rajkot. Despite his efforts, India lost the match by 26 runs. For his 14 wickets, Varun was named the player of the series award. Varun occupies the joint 2nd spot along with Adil Rashid.  

Varun Chakvarthy picked wickets whenever Team India needed and did not allow England’s batters to score runs easily. Ravi Bishnoi also climbs four places with good performances in the T20I series against England.

Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games. The Indian pair struggled in the initial phases of the first game trailing by 3-6 before taking 7 points in succession to put the pressure back on the Chinese pair.
