Ind vs Eng 2nd ODI: India Seal The Series
The Indian Cricket Team sealed the series with an impressive
win in the 2nd ODI match played at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on 9th February
2025.
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bat
first. Ben Duckett started the innings on flying colors putting pressure on the
Indian bowlers against Shami and Harshit Rana. Duckett looked in sublime touch
keeping momentum going for the visitors maintaining the pressure. Phil Salt was
given a reprieve as Axar Patel dropped a sitter.
At the end of the first 10 overs, England raced away to 75
for 0. Varun Chakravarthy made his ODI debut dismissed Salt providing a simple
catch to Ravindra Jadeja. Salt and Duckett added 81 runs for the opening
wicket. Duckett looked in great touch reaching his fifty off just 36
deliveries.
Ravindra Jadeja got the breakthrough dismissing the
dangerous Duckett caught by Hardik Pandya at long-off. Joe Root and Harry Brook
steadied the ship for England taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma did not review the LBW decision to get rid of Root.
Root and Brook kept the momentum going for England. A
stunning running catch ended the innings for Harry Brook. Harry Brook and Root
added 66 runs for the 3rd wicket. England captain Buttler joined in with Root
keeping the scoreboard ticking taking singles and hitting some lovely shots.
Root looked composed, reaching his fifty off just 60
deliveries. Hardik Pandya got the big wicket of Buttler with a lovely catch by
Shubman Gill at mid-off. Root and Buttler added 51 runs for the 4th wicket.
Liam Livingstone put on a superb display of batting with attacking shots along
with Root keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Ravindra Jadeja struck an important strike dismissing
well-set Root caught by Kohli at long-off. Jadeja got another big wicket of
Jamie Overton with a good catch by Shubman Gill. Gus Atkinson also perished
with a good catch by Kohli at long-off.
Adil Rashid smacked 3 boundaries against Shami’s over to
keep England on course for 300. A superb piece of fielding by Ravindra Jadeja
and gathered by Harshit Rana ended the innings for Adil Rashid. Shreyas Iyer
produced another superb piece of fielding running out Liam Livingstone. KL
Rahul ran out Mark Wood to run a bye. England were bundled out for 304 in 49.5
overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 35 in 10 overs.
Rohit Sharma Roared Back To Form
Chasing down 305 runs to win, Rohit Sharma began the innings
on an aggressive note putting pressure on England bowlers. With the scoreboard
reading 48 for 0, the match was stopped due to one of the light towers not
functioning.
After a small delay, Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with
attacking shots while Shubman Gill looked impressive not allowing the England
bowlers to settle. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian openers raced away
to 77 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Rohit Sharma completed his
half-century off 30 deliveries. Both Indian openers kept the momentum going
while Gill completed fifty from 45 balls.
Jamie Overton struck dismissing Gill ending a superb 136-run
opening partnership. Adil Rashid produced a lovely delivery to get rid of Virat
Kohli. Shreyas Iyer came to the crease with positive intent, keeping the
scoreboard ticking along with Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma looked in sublime touch hitting attacking shots
making life tough for the England bowlers. He completed a well-deserved century of 76 deliveries. Rohit Sharma maintained the pressure keeping India
on course for a win. India’s captain's knock ended by providing a simple catch to Adil
Rashid. Rohit and Shreyas added 70 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Axar Patel was promoted ahead of KL Rahul again. Axar
continued his impressive run hitting some lovely shots, keeping the momentum
going. Shreyas Iyer was involved in a mix-up which ended in a run-out at the
non-striker end. Shreyas and Axar added
38 runs for the 4th wicket.
KL Rahul’s poor form continued being dismissed by Jamie
Overton, caught by Phil Salt. Hardik Pandya also fell cheaply which led to a mini-collapse. Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs as India won the match by 4
wickets with 33 balls to spare.
India 308 for 6 in 44.3 overs (Rohit Sharma 119, Shubman
Gill 60, Jamie Overton 2/27) beat England 304 in 49.5 overs (Joe Root 69,
Duckett 65, Ravindra Jadeja 3/35) by 4 wickets.
For his 119 off 90 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes, Rohit
Sharma was named the player of the match award. India took an unassailable 2-0
lead. The 3rd ODI will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 12th
February 2025.
