Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Mumbai Beat Haryana To Qualify For Semi-Finals
Under the
leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai won by showing fighting spirit to beat
Haryana in the 3rd quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy played
at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 11th February 2025.
Mumbai
captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a
disastrous start for the 42-time Ranji champion as they looked in deep trouble
with the likes of Ayush Mhatre, Akash Anand, Siddhesh Lad &Suryakumar Yadav
dismissed cheaply. Shivam Dube along with Rahane provided some resemblance.
Mumbai looked in deep trouble at 113 for 7. Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani
rescued the innings putting on 165 runs for the 8th wicket. Mumbai
ended the first day at 281 for 8.
Kotian
played splendid innings as he was dismissed three short of a century. Mumbai
ended their innings with a competitive total of 315. Lakshay Dalal and captain
Ankit Kumar started off brightly for Haryana putting on 87 runs for the opening
wicket.
Yashvardhan
and captain Ankit Kumar showed their class keeping the pressure on Mumbai
bowlers. Haryana captain Ankit played a captain’s knock dismissed for 136.
Haryana ended the 2nd day with the scoreboard reading 263 for 5.
Shardul Thakur was lethal with his bowling on the 3rd morning dismissing Rohit
Sharma, Anuj Thakral, Anshul Kamboj & Ajit Chahal to bundle Haryana out for
301. Shardul Thakur grabbed 6 wickets as Mumbai took a slender lead with 14
runs.
Mumbai
began the second innings on a positive note with Ayush Mhatre and Akash Anand
showing positive intent. Captain Rahane led from the front putting up a
brilliant partnership along with Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar Yadav also played
with an attacking approach scoring quickfire 70 runs. Rahane and Suryakumar
added 129 runs for the 4th wicket. Mumbai ended the 3rd
day at 278 for 4.
Haryana bowlers made a strong comeback picking 6 wickets for 61 runs to bundle Mumbai out for 339. Chasing down 354 runs to win, Haryana kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Lakshay Dalal and Sumit Kumar helped them to recover by putting on 90 runs for the 6th wicket. Mumbai bundled Haryana out for 201 in 57.3 overs to register a dominating 152 run win. They will face Vidarbha in the 2nd semi-finals
Shardul Thakur was named the player of the match for his 9 wicket haul including the match turning 6 wickets in the first innings.
Mumbai 315
in 88.2 overs (Tanush Kotian 97, Shams Mulani 91, Anshul Kamboj 3/71, Sumit
Kumar 3/81) and 339 in 85.3 overs (Rahane 108, Suryakumar Yadav 70, Anuj Thakral
4/70) beat Haryana 301 in 84. 5 overs (Ankit Kumar 136, Shardul Thakur 6/58)
and 201 in 57.3 overs (Lakshay Dalal 64, Sumit Kumar 62, Royston Dias 5/39) by
152 runs.
