All England Badminton Championship 2025 Day 2: Mixed Day For Indian Shuttlers
The Indian
shuttlers had a mixed outing with 2 out of 4 progressed it into the next round
of the prestigious Super 1000 All England Badminton Championship 2025 played at
Birmingham on 12th March.
The mixed doubles
pairing of Rohan Kapoor & Shivani Gadde defeated Ye H-w and NG Chan of
Chinese Taipei in three thrilling games. It was a dominating performance by the
Indian pair putting pressure on their opponents before winning the first game easily
at 21-10.
It was a
closely fought second game as Rohan and Shivani Gadde dominated most of the
game, but lost the momentum in the dying moments as Ye and Chan won the second game
at 21-17 to force the game into the decider.
The third
game was a see-saw battle as Rohan and Shivani started off brightly in the initial
stages before Ye and Chan fought back strongly, taking an 11-9 lead at the
interval. After the break, the match ebbed and flowed right till the end before
Indian held onto their nerves winning with a scoreline of 24-22 to move into
the second round. They will face Feng YZ & Wei YX of China.
It was
curtains for PV Sindhu as she lost to Kim Ga Eun of South Korea in three games.
The first game was a good performance by Sindhu keeping pressure on Kim. After
the interval, the Indian dominated her opponent before Kim made a strong
comeback. Sindhu held onto her nerves to win the first game at 21-19.
Sindhu
struggled in the next two games as she committed lots of unforced errors. At
the mid-game break, Kim had a 2-point lead at the break. After the break,
Sindhu showed some fight equaling the scoreline at 12-12 before Kim won the
second game easily at 21-13.
The third
game was another disappointing performance by Sindhu as he struggled to maintain
the pace. Kim dominated the rallies and never allowed any sniff for the Indian.
At the mid-game break, the South Korean pair had an 11-7 lead at the break.
After the break, Sindhu tried her best, it was not enough as Kim won it easily
with a scoreline of 21-13.
Tressa Jolly
and Gayatri Gopichand eased past Sung S-y & Yu C-h of Chinese Taipei in two
straight games. It was a dominating performance by the Indian pairing winning
with a scoreline of 21-17, 21-13. They will face Kim HJ and Kong H-y of South Korea.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated M Lundgaard and Veestgaard in
two straight games. Satwik/Chirag initially struggled against the Danish
pairing before making a strong comeback. At the mid-game interval, Lundgaard
and Veestgaard took a slender 11-10 lead at the break. Satwik/Chirag showed
great fighting spirit to take 5 successive points putting consistent pressure
on the Danish pairing winning the first game easily at 21-17.
The second
saw the Danish pairing putting enough pressure with attacking shots as the
Indian pairing struggled. At the mid-game break, Lundgaard and Veestgaard took
a commanding 11-7 lead. Trailing 9-14, Satwik/Chirag showed fighting spirit, taking
10 points in succession to win the second game easily at 21-15 to move into the
second round. They will face Xie HN and Zheng WH of China.
The mixed doubles
pairing of Dhruv Kapila & Tanisha Crasto suffered a straight-game loss to R
Oupthong and Sudajprapat of Thailand. Kapila and Crasto began on a positive note
before the Thai pairing showed domination not allowing any chances. They
committed lots of unforced errors, Kapila and Crasto lost with a scoreline of
17-21, 14-21.
P Konjenbgam
and S Mishra suffered a straight-game loss to World number 1 Baek H-n and Lee S-h
of South Korea. It was an expected result as they suffered 9-21, 4-21
battering.
Satwik/Chirag Shetty, Tanisha Crasto & Dhruv Kapila will play their opening-round matches tonight.
