All England Badminton Championship 2025 Day 3: Two Indian Shuttlers Qualify For Quarterfinals

 

The Indian contingent had a mixed outing as 2 of them made it into the quarterfinals of the prestigious Super 1000 All England Badminton Championship 2025 played in Birmingham on 13th March.

Lakshya Sen produced a dominating performance over world number 2 Jonathan Christie. He looked in sublime form right from the word putting consistent pressure on the Indonesian. Sen attacked Christie and not allow any chances for his opponent to make a comeback winning in straight games by 21-13, 21-10. He will face Li Shifeng of China in the quarterfinals.

The women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand stunned the South Korean pair of Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Jong in three thrilling games. Kim and Kong began the first game on a positive note, putting pressure on Jolly and Gayatri. The South Korean pair registered a commanding lead at the break. After the break, they maintained pressure by winning the first game by 21-15.

The second game was a closely fought affair right from the word go. Tressa and Gayatri showed great fighting spirit to make a strong comeback to take a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the break, both pairs took alternate points before Indian pairing won it by 21-18 to force the match into the decider.

Tressa and Gayatri looked impressive in the third game also. They made a strong comeback with attacking shots keeping pressure on Kim and Kong with a 11-9 lead. After the break, South Korean pair made a strong comeback to put some pressure. The Indian pairing showed fighting spirit to level the scores at 18-18 before holding onto their nerves to win the deciding game at 21-18. They will now play the 2nd-seeded Liu SS & Tan N of China.

There was some bad news as the men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty retried with the scoreline at 2-2 in the second game. Satwik/Chirag struggled in the first game as Xie HN & Zeng WH looked sharp with their attack. The Indian pair suffered a 16-21 loss in the first game. With the scoreline at 2-2, Chirag Shetty complained of a back problem, so Chirag/Satwik had to retire midway.

Malvika Bansod found it tough as she lost experienced Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in two straight games. Yamaguchi looked strong right from the word go against Bansod winning with a scoreline of 21-16, 21-13. Bansod defeated Yeo Jia Min of Singapore in the first round.

The mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor & Shivani Gadde suffered a straight-game loss to Feng YZ and Wei YX. It was a dominating performance by the Chinese pair as they completely outplayed Rohan and Gadde winning easily at 21-10, 21-12.
