All England Badminton Championship 2025 Day 5: Indian Challenge Ends
The Indian
challenge ended with both Lakshya Sen & Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand could
not cross the line in the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 All England Badminton
Championship 2025 played at Birmingham on 14th March.
Lakshya Sen
suffered a straight-game loss to Li Shifeng of China. The first game began with
both players taking alternate points till 4-4. Li dominated the play not
allowing any sniff to Lakshya keeping pressure with attacking shots. At the
mid-game break, Li took a commanding 11-4 lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as the
6th seeded Li maintained pressure winning the first game easily at
21-10.
The second
game began on an even keel with both players showing their class. Lakshya Sen
fought back strongly keeping consistent pressure on Li. At the break, the
Indian took an 11-8 lead. After the break, Li produced a superb comeback not
allowing any chances for Sen to make a comeback by winning the 2nd game
with a scoreline of 21-16 to knock Lakshya out of the medal contention.
Tressa
Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand suffered a straight-game loss to 2nd seeded
Chinese pairing of Liu SS and Tan N. The
first game began on equal footing before Jolly and Gayatri played superb badminton.
Liu and Tan showed their domination by taking a slender 11-10 lead at the
break. After the break, it was one-way traffic as the Chinese pairing did not
allow any sniff to the Indian pairing with a scoreline of 21-14.
The second
game was a one-sided affair as the Chinese pairing put consistent pressure on
Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand. They never allowed any sniff to Jolly and Gayatri winning
it easily by 21-10 to move into the semi-finals.
