Champions Trophy 2025: India Finish League Stage Unbeaten
The Indian Cricket Team ended the group stage with an impressive win against New Zealand played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on 2nd March 2025.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santer won the toss and decided
to field first. Rohit Sharma began the innings on a positive note putting
pressure with attacking shots. Matt Henry got the breakthrough by dismissing
Shubman Gill. Gill took the review for LBW which remained out. Kyle Jamieson
got rid of Indian captain Rohit Sharma with a simple catch to Mitchell Santer.
Kohli looked in good touch with positive strokes before a
stunning one-handed catch at backward point by Glenn Phillips ended his
innings. At the end of the first 10 overs, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel ensured
that India scored 37 for 3.
After the field restrictions, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel
steadied the ship taking singles against pace bowlers. Both Indian batters put
pressure on New Zealand spinners keeping the scoreboard ticking. Shreyas showed
intent against William O Rourke with 3 boundaries in an over changing the
momentum of the innings.
Axar Patel kept the scoreboard ticking along with Shreyas
Iyer. A stunning one-handed catch by Kane Williamson at short third man ended
the innings for Axar. Axar and Shreyas added 98 runs for the 4th
wicket.
Shreyas reached well-deserved fifty off 75 deliveries. Shreyas
and KL Rahul kept the momentum going for India before Shreyas was peppered with
a short ball caught by Will Young. Shreyas and KL Rahul added 44 runs for the 5th
wicket.
KL Rahul could not convert the start with a good catch by
Tom Latham. Hardik Pandya took the advantage with lusty hits keeping the
scoreboard ticking along with Ravindra Jadeja. A stunning catch by Kane
Williamson at backward point ended the innings for Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja and
Hardik Pandya added 41 runs for the 7th wicket.
Hardik Pandya put on an excellent display of hitting against
Kyle Jamieson before Matt Henry delivered a great final over getting wickets of
Hardik Pandya and Shami to finish with five wickets. India scored 249 for 9 at
the end of 50 overs.
Great Bowling By Indian Spinners
The Indian Team decided to go with four spinners. Hardik
Pandya got the breakthrough dismissing Rachin Ravindra with a stunning catch by
Axar Patel at third man. Will Young and Kane Williamson steadied the ship
putting pressure on Indian bowlers. At the end of the first 10 overs, New
Zealand scored 44 for 1.
Varun Chakravarthy struck with a peach of delivery getting
the scalp of Will Young. Young and Williamson added 32 runs for the 2nd
wicket. It was a disciplined bowling effort by Indian spinners keeping tight
lines and lengths. Kuldeep Yadav produced a lovely delivery to dismiss Darly
Mitchell in front of the stumps. Mitchell and Williamson added 44 runs for the
3rd wicket. Kane Williamson made batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking while Tom Latham struggled against disciplined Indian
bowling.
Ravindra Jadeja showed his class getting rid of Tom Latham. Latham
and Williamson added 40 runs for the 4th wicket. Williamson looked
in great touch reaching fifty off 77 deliveries. Varun Chakravarthy produced
the magic getting rid of Glenn Phillips and Micheal Bracewell leaving New
Zealand in trouble.
Kane Williamson showed his class with excellent shots before
Axar Patel got rid of him keeping them on the backfoot. New Zealand captain
Mitchell Santer showed his abilities with the bat before Varun got the wickets of Santer
and Matt Henry picking his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs.
Kuldeep Yadav deceived Kyle Jamieson with a lovely delivery
to bundle out New Zealand for 205. It was a remarkable performance by Indian
spinners.
For his match-winning figures of 5 for 42 in 10 overs, Varun
Chakravarthy was named the player of the match award.
India 249 for 9 in 50 overs (Shreyas Iyer 79, Matt Henry 5/42)
beat New Zealand 205 in 45.3 overs ( Kane Williamson 81, Varun Chakravarthy
5/42) by 44 runs.
India will face Australia in the first semi-finals on 4th
March in Dubai while New Zealand will take on South Africa on 5th
March at Lahore.
