CT 2025: India Beat New Zealand In A Thrilling Contest To Win The Title
The Indian
men’s cricket team created history defeating New Zealand in the finals of
Champions Trophy 2025 played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on 9th
March.
New Zealand
captain Mitchell Santer won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a
cautious start by Rachin Ravindra and Will Young in the initial stages. Rachin
showed intent keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and sixes with
ease. Varun Chakvarthy almost made an important breakthrough given out by the umpire;
in review it was overturned too not out.
Varun
struck in the same over dismissing Will Young with a peach of a delivery to get
the breakthrough for India. Young and Rachin added 57 runs for the opening
wicket. Rachin was given a reprieve as Shami and Shreyas Iyer dropped chances.
At the end of the first 10 overs, New Zealand scored 69 for 1.
Kuldeep
Yadav produced a stunning delivery to dismiss Rachin Ravindra. He struck again
to get rid of Kane Williamson with a simple return catch leaving New Zealand in
trouble. The Indian spinners kept disciplined lines and lengths against Daryl
Mitchell and Tom Latham not allowing them to score runs easily.
As the
pressure was mounting with lots of dot’s deliveries, Ravindra Jadeja took advantage
of getting rid of Latham hitting in front of the stumps. Latham and Mitchell added
33 runs for the 4th wicket. Glenn Phillips also struggled against
disciplined Indian spin bowling not allowing them to score runs.
Mitchell
and Phillips tried to steady the ship for New Zealand before Varun got rid of Glenn
Phillips with a lovely delivery. Mitchell and Glenn Phillips added 57 runs for
the 5th wicket. Mitchell looked cautious against the spinners before
completing his fifty-off 91 deliveries.
Mitchell
eventually upped the ante before providing an easy catch to Rohit Sharma at
covers. Mitchell and Bracewell added 46 runs for the 6th wicket.
Michael Bracewell showed intent against Shami keeping momentum with lusty hits.
A superb throw and gather by KL Rahul ended the innings for Santer attempting
to run the second run.
Bracewell showed
his composure with a well-made 50 off 39 deliveries. New Zealand posted a
decent total of 251 for 7 in 50 overs. Varun Chakvarthy and Kuldeep Yadav took
2 wickets each while Jadeja and Shami grabbed 1 wicket each.
Rohit
Sharma led from the front
Chasing
down 252 runs to win, Indian captain Rohit Sharma showed intent right from the
word go putting pressure on New Zealand pacers including Rourke and Nathan
Smith. Gill joined in the party with attacking shots not allowing any chances
to Kiwi bowlers. At the end of the first 10 overs, India raced away to 69 for
0.
After the
field restrictions, Rohit maintained momentum, reaching fifty off 41
deliveries. Both Indian openers kept the scoreboard ticking before a stunning
one-handed catch by Phillips resulted in the wicket of Gill. Gill and Rohit
added 101 runs for the opening wicket.
New Zealand
spinners kept a tight leash against Indian batters. Michael Bracewell got the
big wicket of Virat Kohli leaving them under pressure. It was a disciplined
bowling by New Zealand spinners not allowing Shreyas and Rohit to score runs
easily.
Mitchell
Santer got the big wicket of Rohit with a simple stumping by Latham. Shreyas
Iyer looked impressive taking singles and hitting some lovely shots. Kyle
Jamieson dropped a simple chance. After the second drinks break, Santer
provided the breakthrough dismissing Iyer with a lovely diving catch by
Ravindra at short fine leg. Iyer and Axar added 61 runs for the 4th
wicket.
KL Rahul
came to the crease steadying the ship putting pressure on New Zealand bowlers. Axar
played a rash stroke providing a simple catch to Jamieson at long-off.
Hardik
Pandya showed intent against the pace bowlers hitting some lovely shots while
KL Rahul looked calm taking singles and hitting boundaries easily. Jamieson
dismissed Hardik with a short delivery with a simple catch. Hardik and KL Rahul
added 38 runs for the 6th wicket. Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning
runs with a boundary as India won the CT 2025 by 4 wickets with balls to spare.
