Orleans Masters 2025: Indian youngster Shine On The Big Stage

Ayush Shetty’s brilliant run continued as he defeated higher-ranked player Rasmus Gemke in a thrilling quarterfinals encounter of the Super 300 Orleans Masters played in Paris, France on 7th March 2025.

It was a great start for Ayush in the first game putting enough pressure on Gemke. He showed his class with attacking shots not allowing him to settle. At the mid-game break, Ayush had a commanding 11-4 lead. After the break, Shetty maintained the momentum despite Gemke’s efforts. Ayush won the first game comfortably at 21-16.

The second game began well for Ayush with aggressive shots keeping Gemke on the backfoot. He showed his class keeping the momentum going before taking a lead at the mid-game break. After the break, Gemke showed his experience reducing the gap and then equalizing the scores at 15-15. The match ebbed and flowed as Ayush’s lack of experience led Gemke to win the 2nd game at 23-21.

Both players fought for each point in the initial stages of the 3rd and deciding game. Ayush Shetty showed great fighting spirit to take the lead at the mid-game break. After the break, Gemke fought back strongly, but Shetty showed spirit to win the deciding game at 21-17. It was a superb performance by Ayush keeping Gemke under pressure with his shots.

Ayush Shetty will take on second-seeded Lin Chun Yi of Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals. He has been superb form this tournament so far. The youngster started with a big win over Loh Kiean Yew of Singapore with a scoreline of 21-17, 21-9. He then defeated Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong in straight games 21-17, 21-17. Ayush Shetty would be looking to prove his worth against Lin and hopes to reach his maiden finals at the senior level.

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games.
