Ranji Trophy 2024/25 Final Day 4: Vidarbha On Cusp Of Winning The Title
It was a sensational batting effort as Vidarbha ended the fourth day of the Ranji Trophy finals against Kerala in a dominating position at VCA Stadium, Jamtha on 1st March 2025.
With a lead of 37 runs, Vidarbha got off to a shaky start
losing 2 quick wickets. Jalaj Saxena produced a peach to dismiss Parth Rekhade.
M Nideesh got rid of Dhruv Shorey with a stunning catch by Mohammed Azharudden
leaving Vidarbha in trouble at 7 for 2.
The veteran player, Karun Nair & centurion Danish Malewar
showed intent to keep the scoreboard ticking. Nair was given a reprieve as Akshay
Chandran dropped a chance at slips. After the drop chance, Nair and Malewar looked
in great touch scoring runs with ease.
Danish Malewar was given out by the umpire, on review it was
overturned to not out. Both batters looked in superb touch not allowing Kerala
bowlers any chance. Karun Nair and Danish Malewar ended the session at 90 for
2.
The second session began well for Vidarbha as Karun reached
his fifty off 104 deliveries. Danish Malewar continued from where left during the
first innings putting the bad balls away for boundaries. He also completed his
half-century off 124 balls keeping Kerala on the backfoot.
Karun Nair played with intent keeping the momentum going for
Vidarbha. He showed great skills against disciplined Kerala bowling reaching
his 4th Ranji Trophy century off 184 deliveries. Right before the
tea break, Akshay Chandran got the breakthrough dismissing Danish Malewar with
a lovely catch by Sachin Baby at slips. Karun Nair and Danish Malewar added 182
runs for the 3rd wicket allowing Vidarbha on the cusp of Ranji
Trophy title. Vidarbha ended the 2nd session in a strong position at
189 for 3.
Karun Nair proved his worth with a positive stroke play
keeping the scoreboard ticking. Yash Rathod joined the party making life tough
for the Kerala bowlers. Aditya Sarwate grabbed the wicket of Yash Rathod via
review. Sarwate decided to review the decision; it turned be right. Rathod
and Karun Nair added 49 runs for the 4th wicket.
Vidarbha captain Akshay Wadkar looked confident along with
Karun Nair. Vidarbha ended the 4th day in a strong position at 249
for 4 leading by 286 runs.
Vidarbha 379 in 123.1 overs (Danish Malewar 153, Karun Nair
86, Nachiket Bhute 32, M Nideesh 3/61, Eden Apple Tom 3/102) and 249 for 4 in 90
overs (Karun Nair 132*, Danish Malewar 73, Aditya Sarwate 1/55) lead Kerala 342
in 125 overs (Sachin Baby 98, Azharudden 34, Harsh Dubey 3/ 88, Rekhade 3/65,
Darshan Nalkande 3/52) by 286 runs.
