Indians clinched a thrilling 8 run win in the finals of the Women’s Premier
League against table toppers Delhi Capitals played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai
on 15th March 2025.
Delhi
Capitals captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to field first. After
losing 2 early wickets of Hayley Mathews and Yastika Bhatia, MI captain Harmanpreet
Kaur and Nat Sciver Brunt steadied the ship. G Kamalini, Amanjot Kaur & Sanskriti
Gupta added valuable runs to help MI post 149 for 7 in 20 overs.
MI bowlers
kept tight lines and lengths not allowing Delhi Capitals batters to score runs
easily. Despite Kapp’s superb knock, MI held onto their nerves winning the 2nd
WPL title.

1. Harmanpreet Kaur
Harmanpreet
Kaur came to the crease with Mumbai Indians struggling at 14 for 2. MI looked
cautious before putting pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers with positive
strokes and big shots. She timed the ball brilliantly keeping the scoreboard
ticking by making sure not allowing the DC bowlers to settle.
After the
first timeout, Kaur looked in great touch hitting boundaries with ease. She showed
great composure reaching her fifty off 33 deliveries to steady the ship for
Mumbai Indians. After the wicket of Nat Sciver Brunt, Mumbai Indians kept
losing wickets at regular intervals.
Harmanpreet
Kaur was eventually dismissed for well made 66 off 44 deliveries with 9
boundaries and 2 sixes helping Mumbai Indians recover to a decent total. She
was named the player of the match award for her superb knock.
2. Nat Sciver Brunt
Nat Sciver
Brunt continued her brilliant run with both bat and ball. She came to the
crease after the early wicket of Hayley Mathews. Brunt struggled initially against
disciplined Delhi Capitals bowling.
She upped
the ante with lovely strokes keeping the momentum going with Harmanpreet Kaur. It
was an unfortunate end to her innings with a sharp catch by Minu Manni at
square leg. Brunt and Kaur put on 89 runs for the 3rd wicket.
With the
ball, Nat Sciver Brunt produced a magical spell. She dismissed Delhi Capitals
captain Meg Lanning with a stunning delivery. Brunt delivered the goods at crunch
time, getting wickets of Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey in the 18th
over giving away just 6 runs to change the momentum.
Needed to defend 14 runs in the final over, Brunt
gave 5 runs without allowing Niki Prasad & Charani any chances to hit big
shots. She finished with figures of 3 for 30 in 4 overs.
3. Amelia Kerr
The star-leg
spinner produced another match-winning effort for Mumbai Indians. She struck in
her first over dismissing Jess Jonassen with a lovely delivery with a simple
catch by Yastika Bhatia.
Kerr looked
like pressure when Jemimah Rodrigues hit boundaries. She returned with a stunning
return catch to dismiss the dangerous Rodrigues to leave Delhi Capitals in
trouble.
It was a remarkable
effort by Kerr who kept pressure on Delhi Capitals batters with discipline lines
and lengths. She finished with figures of 2 for 25 in 4 overs ensuring consistent
pressure on DC batters.
