Badminton Asia Team Championship 2024: Indian Men’s Team Start The Tournament On A Winning Note
The Indian Men’s Badminton Team started their journey in the Badminton Asia Team Championship with a resounding win over Hong Kong, China at Shah Alam, Malaysia on 14th February 2024.
It was not an ideal start for the Indian team as HS Prannoy
suffered a straight-set loss to Na Ka Long Anus. Prannoy struggled initially but
made a strong comeback in both games losing by 18-21, 14-21 giving Hong China a
1-0 lead.
Satwik/Chirag Shetty cruised past Lui and Yeng in the first
men’s doubles. The initial stages saw both the Indian pairing struggle but made
a strong comeback to take the lead in the first game. Satwik and Chirag dominated the
opponents with a 21-16, 21-11 victory to help India level the tie at 1-1.
Lakshya Sen proved too much for Chan Yik Chik in the second men’s
singles. It was a dominating display by Sen right from the word go winning by
21-14, 21-9 to give India a 2-1 lead in the tie.
The second men’s doubles saw MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila
winning against Chow and Hung in two straight games. It was a dominating
display as Arjun and Kapila won by 21-12, 21-7 to give the Indian team a match and
tie at 3-1.
Kidambi Srikanth eased past Jason Gunwan in the last men’s
singles encounter. Srikanth showed his class winning by 21-14, 21-18 to help India
win the tie by 4-1. With this victory, India made it into the quarterfinals as
Hong Kong lost to the Republic of China yesterday.
The Indian team will face the Republic of China in the last group
game. It will be a tough challenge for the men’s team and hope to provide another
great display finishing at the top of their group.
