Groups and schedule for the Thomas and Uber Cup announced

 In governing body meeting taken place in Kuala Lumpur today, the schedule and groups for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup have been announced. On 29th April 2020, the tournament was postponed to 3rd to 11th October due to COVID pandemic. Again, on 15th September, it was again postponed.

The prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup will be held from 9th-17th October at Arhus, Denmark. There are 16 teams divided into four groups in both tournaments. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockouts. The Quarterfinals line up will take from 15th October while the semi-finals on 16th. The finals will take on 17th October.

Indian badminton teams failed to reach the knockout stage in 2018 edition.

Thomas Cup

The Thomas Cup is a men’s World Team Championship tournament. Indian team has been handed a decent draw as they have been clubbed with China, minnows Netherlands and Tahiti in Group C.

Uber Cup

Uber Cup is a prestigious tournament for women. Japan is currently the defending Champion of this tournament as they defeated China in the 2018 edition.

Asia Champions Trophy 2024: India Enters Finals With Commanding Win

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. Soon after, Korea’s two penalty corners before the third penalty corner as the shot hits Sumit’s body.   At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt. Nitish Kumar and Steve Taylor steadied the ship for the USA. Sam Curran dismissed Steve Taylor caught by Moeen Ali. Taylor and Nitish Kumar added 34 runs for the 2 nd wicket. It was a disciplined bowling effort by the England bowlers as they kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Sam Curran struck to dismiss Harmeet Singh.
