Key battles to look out for in India-England series 2014
In the upcoming five match test series between India and England to began from 9th of July 2014 there are 5 key battles that the fans must look out for. After the debacle of 2011 series this tour will give an idea of how prepared are the Indians . It will be big test for the young Indian team as only 3 players have experience of playing test cricket in England.
1. Indian rookie vs experienced England
The new ball is most important time that to put pressure on the batsman coming in and as the matches are taking place in England the new ball spell could decide the fate of series.Swing bowling will play an important role. There are some bowlers from each side which have the ability to take wickets. From England side James Anderson who is the highest wicket taker against India and the man who decimated the Indian fame batting line up in 2011and also Stuart Broad are key for the England team, , accompaning them are Liam Plunkett who bowled with pace, Jordan a bowler with lot of promise might trouble the Indians .On the other side the Indian new ball bowlers consisting of Bhuvneswar Kumar, Mohmmad Shami playing for the first time in England and Ishant Sharma who is only player with experience needs to make early inroads. The other pace bowling options must perform well together.
2. Solid Foundation
In England where the bowl swings the opening batsman role is to give a solid start to the team so that middle order can build on and put a huge score on the board. From the England point of view Cook form has been a worry for the team since ashes and he did not score big against the Sri Lankans. The pressure will be on him to deliver, and his opening partner Robson who scored a an impressive 121 in the first innings of second test match against the Sri Lankans, his runs can take England to big total and put pressure on the inexperienced Indian batting. On the other hand the Indian openers which have been inconsistent in the past 5 to 6 months from South African tour the onus is on the openers is to provide an excellent foundation for the likes of Pujara to take time and build an innings. Pujara with a solid technical batsman needs to focus on spending spending time on the pitch and grind the England bowlers. The opening partnership can set the tone of series and help to win series for their team. In 2011 series Rahul Dravid was only batsman from India to scoring 3 centuries and others falling like nine pins. 3. Inexperinced youth vs Struggling England
As both the teams are going through a transitional phase , the middle order batting could decide the outcome the series. Since England does not have Pietersen, Trott, Strauss in their squad, the likes of Root, Bell, Prior has to score the bulk of the runs. In the previous series against Sri Lanka, Root scored a double ton in first innings of first test at Lords, Bell also scored some runs, Prior also scored some runs. They have contribute in way which can help England to win the test matches which they have forgotten. On the other hand India have an inexperienced middle order with likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahane who have never played a test match in England and Dhoni who's batting outside the subcontient has been poor. He needs to improve his average and the best way is play aggressive batting .Kohli has been in superb form in the past few months has to led the charge and ensure India make a score 500 to give bowlers a chance to win the test matches. They will be without Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid who have taught how to win abroad
4. Lack of peneration vs master of reverse swing
If the pitches in England become flat the old bowl spells might decide the fate of the series. The England team will rely on Anderson who is an great exponent of old ball will be a big threat for the Indians, Stuart Broad is a bowler who bowls with speed can bring the ball in is also is a threat. On other side the Indian team has struggled with old ball in the past.Itgives an oppournity for likes of Shami to show that he can deliever with old ball,Bhuveneshwar can be threat, Varun Aaron with his pace can rattle the England batsman. Shami which has shown promise with the reverse swing can deliver, Bhuvneshwar Kumar which has been impressive with pace in the IPL needs to weave magic.
5. MS Dhoni Vs Cook
The captaincy of both Dhoni and Cook has been under question. Cook has woeful with his field placement and let the opposition run away with the game. This series might be a make or break series for both of captains . Cook needs to proactive with his field placement and must rotate his bowlers. On the other Dhoni captaincy in South Africa and Newzeland was pathetic. Dhoni needs to learn more attacking with field placements when the opponents are struggling.
Overall this series will be an exciting one and lets hope new heroes emerge. This series will serve an platform for the players to do well. India go and do well.India should remember that they won the series 1-0 in 2007. Now is the chance for the next generation players to showcase their talent and not to give up, fight hard. As an indian fan after I want the Indian team to play aggressive cricket and play to their strengths.
