4 big wickets with 78 runs on the board and is still trailing by 56 runs.
Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets. Here we look at the five
talking points of day 3.
1.
Partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant
Yadav
The overnight Indian batsmen Ravichandran Ashwin and
Ravindra Jadeja started the day on a positive note adding 30 runs in the first
half hour. Ashwin was dismissed by Ben Stokes for 72. Ravindra Jadeja and
Jayant Yadav had other ideas with both the batsmen playing ball on merit.
Ravindra Jadeja completed his half century off 104 balls. Jayant Yadav who
playing his 2nd test match showed his credentials as batsmen. At
lunch, India was 354 for 7. After the lunch break, both batsmen continued to frustrate
the England bowlers. Both of them put on 80 runs for the 8th wicket
before Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 90.
2.
Ben Stokes the pick of bowlers for England
Ben Stokes was the pick of bowlers for England. In yesterday’s
day play, Ben Stokes picked the wickets of Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli. On the
3rd day, Ben Stokes bowled with heart picking the wicket of
Ravichandran Ashwin for 72. When other bowlers were struggling to pick lower batsmen
of India, Ben Stokes showed his class again taking wickets of Jayant Yadav and
Umesh Yadav to finish with figures of 5/73 in 26.2 overs. Ben Stokes has been
in great form with the bat and ball so far in this series.
3.
Ravichandran Ashwin breaks the backbone of
England batting
Ravichandran Ashwin was brought to the bowling crease by
Virat Kohli in the 7th over. The number 1 ranked test bowler continued
his brilliant form troubling England captain Alistar Cook. Ashwin dismissed Cook
for the 2nd time in the match. He bowled consistent line and lengths
not allowing the England batsmen to score runs at ease. Ashwin dismissed Moeen
Ali with a beautiful delivery inviting the batsmen to hit a big stroke. In the
last over of the day, Ashwin took the wicket of Ben Stokes to give the Indian
team a big advantage. Ashwin has figures of 3/19 in 12 overs.
4.
Good support by other bowlers too
Apart from Ashwin, the other Indian bowlers have done a
great job by not only restricting the England batsmen to score runs easily.
Mohammad Shami bowled with great control troubling the England batsmen; Umesh
Yadav was given only 1 over. Ravindra Jadeja did a brilliant job by bowling consistent
line and lengths. The other wicket taker for India was Jayant Yadav who took
the wicket of Jonny Bairstow. All the Indian bowlers showed discipline making
the life tough for English batsmen.
5.
Joe Root still at the crease
Joe Root came to open the innings in place of Haseeb Hameed.
He played with good technique against the fast bowlers. Despite struggling the
Indian spinners, Joe Root is still at the crease on 36 not out. If England, are
to be still in the match Joe Root needs to play match winning knock tomorrow to
give the visitors a glimmer of hope to beat India. The other England batsmen
struggled against Ashwin, Jadeja and Jayant Yadav.
