Four Nations Hockey Tournament: India wins against Malaysia
India registered their first win of the tournament by
defeating Malaysia in the four nations tournament played at Melbourne played
earlier today. It was a dominating performance by India who cameback after
losing their first match against Australia yesterday.
In the first quarter, India dominated the play but could not
convert chances into goals. At the end of the first quarter the scores were
0-0.
9 minutes into the second quarter, Nikkin Thimmah scored the
goal to give India 1-0 lead. The Malaysian team tried their best to level the
score but could not do it. At the end of the 2nd quarter India led
1-0.
In the 3rd quarter, Malaysia earned their first
penalty corner and Saari converted the penalty corner into goal to equalize the
score at 1-1. India earned their first penalty corner in the 10th
minute and Rupinder Pal Singh converted the penalty corner into goal to give
India the advantage again. At the end of 3rd quarter India led 2-1.
The fourth quarter began well for Malaysia earning their
second penalty corner. Shahril Saabah converted the penalty corner to level the
score at 2-2. India showed great speed and with great team work from Sardar and
Nikkin Thimmah helped India to take a 3-2 lead in the 10th minute.
Few seconds after Akashdeep Singh reverse stick hit was enough for India to win
the match 4-2.
India will play New Zealand on 26th November.
