Hong Kong Open Super Series 2016: Good day for Indian shuttler’s
It was another good day for Indian shuttler’s as PV Sindhu,
Saina Nehwal, Ajay Jayaram and S Verma progressed into the quarter finals. It
was curtains for HS Prannoy as he lost
in three gruelling sets to Chong F.
In the women’s singles Saina Nehwal took on Sato of Japan.
In the first game Sato began well taking a 6-4 lead before the Indian played excellent
badminton to reduce the gap to 7-8. At the mid interval Saina Nehwal led 11-9. After
the interval Sato levelled the score at 11-11 but Saina showed her class and
won the first set 21-18.
In the second game, Sato dominated Saina right from the
start and led 11-4 at the interval. After the interval, the Japanese player won
the game 21-9 easily to force into a decider. In the deciding game, Saina
played excellent badminton and led 11-8. After the interval, Saina continued to
dominate the Japanese player and won the third game 21-16 progressing into the
quarter finals. PV Sindhu took on HSU. It was a dominating display by the Rio
silver medallist and won the match in two straight sets 21-10, 21-14 to
progress into the quarter finals.
In the men’s singles, Sameer Verma took on K Sakai. Despite
Sameer Verma losing the first set 19-21, the Indian player showed great courage
winning the next two games 21-15, 21-11 to progress into the quarter finals. He
will face Chong WF.
Ajay Jayaram took on Huang of China. Ajay Jayaram dominated
the Chinese player and won the match in two straight sets 21-18,21-19. He will
face NG K L in the quarter finals.
HS Prannoy took on Chong W F. HS Prannoy won the first set
21-15 but the Malaysian player won the next two games 11-21, 15-21.
