Hong Kong Open Super Series: Good day for Indian shuttlers

It was a good day for Indian shuttlers on the first day of Hong Kong Open Super Series. In men’s singles Ajay Jayaram, S Verma and HS Prannoy progressed into the second round while in the women’s singles PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal qualified into second round. Sai Pranneth and men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy were knocked out.
In the first match of the day Saina Nehwal took on Buranpraserturk. It was an exciting match with Saina Nehwal winning in three sets. In the first game the Thai player dominated and won the first set 21-12 while in the second and third sets Saina Nehwal showed great courage winning it 21-19 and 21-17 to progress into the second round. PV Sindhu took on YY Susanto. PV Sindhu dominated the qualifier and won the game in two straight sets in 21-13, 21-16 to progress into second round.
In men’s singles HS Prannoy took on Qiao B of China. HS Prannoy dominated the Chinese player and won the game in two straight sets 21-16, 21-18 to progress into second round where he will face Chong F. S Verma took on T Udea of Japan and won in two straight sets 22-20, 21-18 to enter into next round where his opponent will be K Sakai. Ajay Jayaram took on Ginting. It was an exciting match as it went into three sets. Jayaram won it 21-15, 13-21 and 21-16. Sai Pranneth lost to Jorgensen in two straight sets 18-21,18-21.
In men’s doubles Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy lost in two straight sets 15-21, 8-21.
