Hong Kong Super Series 2016: Sameer Verma and PV Sindhu progresses into finals

It was a great day for Indian shuttler’s as Sameer Verma and PV Sindhu progresses into the finals of the Hong Kong Super Series. Sameer Verma took on higher seed Jan Jorgsen of Denmark and showed great fighting spirit to win the match in two straight sets while PV Sindhu dominated her opponent and won her match easily.
In the men’s singles Sameer Verma took on China Open Super Series winner Jan Jorgsen of Denmark. The young Indian started the first game on a positive note taking a 7-1 lead but Denmark player fought back and reduced the gap to 6-9. Jan then took the lead for the first time at 10-9. At the interval Sameer Verma led 11-10. After the interval Jan again took 3 points in succession to take a 14-11 lead. The young Indian clawed way into the match by levelling the scores at 14-14. Verma led 20-17 and won the first set 21-19.
In the second game, the player from Denmark started the game on an aggressive note taking a 4-1 lead. Sameer Verma fought back into the match to reduce the gap to 5-7 in favour of Dane player. At the interval Jan had a commanding lead of 11-5. After the interval Sameer Verma showed great fighting spirit take four points in succession to reduce the gap to 9-11. The young Indian levelled the score at 12-12 and then took the lead for the first time in the game at 13-12. World No 3 took points in succession to take a 17-14 lead before Sameer Verma reduce the gap again to only 1 point at 17-18 in favour of Denmark player. From 17-20 down, Sameer Verma levelled the score at 20-20. Sameer Verma showed great courage and won the second game 24-22 to progress into finals. He will meet NG KL of Hong Kong in the finals.
In the women’s singles, PV Sindhu took on Cheung of Hong Kong. In the first game, Cheung started on a positive note taking a 4-2 lead but the Rio silver medallist took 3 points in succession to level the score at 5-5. Sindhu played excellent badminton and took 11-9 lead at the interval. After the interval Sindhu dominated her opponent and won the first set 21-14. In the second game, Sindhu began on an aggressive note taking a 4-1 lead. From 3-7 down, Cheung took four points in succession to level the score at 7-7. At the interval, Sindhu led 11-10. After the interval Sindhu proved too much for opponent and won the second set 21-16 to progress into her second successive finals. She will meet Tai Tzu Ying in the finals.
