Border Gavaskar Trophy 2017: Things to expect from India vs Australia test series
India and Australia will take on each other in a
mouthwatering four match test series starting from 23rd February.
The first test match will take place at MCA Stadium, Pune. India is on a roll
beating New Zeland, England and Bangladesh in the home season so far. It has
been great home season by team India who has not lost any match since 2012.
The Australian team won their last test match on Indian soil
in 2004. From 2013 onwards, Australia lost the test series to India 4-0, 2-0 to
Pakistan in UAE and was whitewashed by Sri Lanka 3-0 last year. It promises to
be an exciting series with two top teams in the world at the present moment. Last
time both teams played in Australia, India were defeated Australia 0-2 with
Virat Kohli scoring 692 runs in 4 test matches.
India is currently the number 1 ranked test team in the
world. If India beats Australia in the first test match, then the Men in Blue
will receive 1 million. The Indian team is in great form with the likes of
Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Rahane who played excellent cricket
in one off test match against Bangladesh recently. Wriddihman Saha scored a
century in against Bangladesh. The Indian bowlers have done a great job with
the pacers picking wickets and the spinners also contributing to the team
cause. The Indian team has been announced for the first two test matches.
As far Australia are concerned, only 2 players have come to
India and played on Indian soil. David Warner and Steve Smith have the experience
of playing in India. The other Australia players need to play positive cricket
if they are to beat India. Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Handscomb lacks experience
to play top quality Indian spinners. The Australian bowlers include Mitchell
Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Jackson Bird are the pacers while five spinners have
been included into the Australian test team. Steve O Keefe, Nathan Lyon,
Mitchell Swepson, Glenn Maxwell. The Australian spinners need to bowl well if
they are to beat India in India.
Australia and India have had exciting matches in the past.
India are favorites to win the series but Australia cant be counted because of
their aggressive style of play. The former players have predicted Australia
will lose 4-0.
The Indian pace bowlers have done well in the home season.
Bhvuneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav have been impressive with their
line and lengths. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have done well in
pairs putting pressure on opponent batsmen.
Australia needs to play spin better if they are to think of
putting pressure on Indian team. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird
and Mitchell Marsh are potent to trouble the Indian batsmen. With 2 days to go,
India and Australia will continue their rivalry.
