India look to end at number 1 at the annual 1 April Cut off date during Australia test series
The Indian team has been in excellent form winning 8 test
matches in a row. India defeated Bangladesh by 208 runs in one off test match
at Hyderabad and consolidated their position at the top of ICC test rankings.
With the upcoming four test matches against Australia starting from 23rd
February, India has a chance to end as the number 1 ranked team in test matches
at annual cut off date off April 1st.
With the win over Bangladesh, India have earned one point
and are at 121 points. To retain the number 1 test team, India must win one off
the four test matches. The Australian team need to defeat India by 3-0 or 4-0
to reclaim the number 1 rank in test matches.
South Africa will take on New Zealand in three match test
series next month. South Africa can have a chance to be at number 1 position in
test matches, they need to whitewash New Zealand and hope that India does not win
a single test against Australia.
The top placed ranked side in test matches as off April 1
will receive $1 million while second place side will receive $500 K. ICC has reviled
the combination for Border Gavaskar series.
