Dutch Open 2019: Lakshaya Sen and RM Bhardwaj move into quarter finals
The young Indian singles player of Lakshaya Sen and RM Bhardwaj
moved into the quarter finals of the Super 100 Dutch Open played at Almere,
Netherlands on Thursday.
It was an outstanding performance by Lakshaya Sen who
defeated higher ranked Brazil player Y Coelho in three sets by 21-13,16-21,
21-10. The Indian proved his worth with great shots and put the Brazil player
under pressure to win the first set easily at 21-13. In the 2nd
game, Sen committed lot of mistakes which Coelho took advantage of and forced
the match into decider. It was again Sen who showed lot of courage to win the
third set easily at 21-10 to take RM Bhardwaj in the quarterfinals.
RM Bhardwaj stunned 6th ranked Svendsen in three
sets by 21-17, 24-26, 21-8. It was a great performance by the Indian who showed
great fighting spirit to win the first set easily at 21-17. The second set was
a closely fought game as both players fought for each before the player from
Denmark won the game at 26-24. In the final and deciding game, Bhardwaj
dominated right from word and just did not allow his opponent to comeback into
the match.
The number 1 ranked player in the tournament Sameer Verma
suffered a shock loss to Y Onodera in three sets by 18-21, 21-19, 14-21. It was
a very close fought game between these two players. The qualifier from Japan played
with aggression in the first game and won the first game at 21-18. The second
game was a close fought affair as both players fought for each point before
Sameer closed it out at 21-19.
In the deciding game, both players fought for each point
with a score line reading at 4-4 and continued to stay equal. At the interval,
Sameer Verma had slender 11-10 lead. After the interval, the Japanese player
did not allow the Indian to comeback and won the game easily.
Sen and Bhardwaj would be facing each other in the
quarterfinals tomorrow. It would be a cracking contest.
